Baby Peggy - still going at 97

Actress Diana Serra Cary, better known as Baby Peggy, is the now the only silent film star still living, at age 97. One of her films, The Family Secret from 1924, has been restored/released on DVD, and will be also played on TCM on October 25. Great news!

This is astonishing. I often watch old movies from the 30s 40s and 50s wondering if any of the actors are still among the living. Never thought about a silent film actress.

Lillian Gish was in her 100th year when she died in 1993. Her movie career ran from 1912 to 1987, an astonishing 75 years.

Dean Stockwell's first role was in The Horn Blows At Midnight in 1945, age 9. He is still working and may beat her record.

The amazing thing about Gish is her last movie, "The Whales of August," in which she both out-looks and out-acts her even more wizened costar Bette Davis.
