This is a smooth finish derby with a taller crown and bigger brim than most derbies. This custom hat has a distinct Old West look and feel. Made right in Scottsdale Arizona.

The custom hatband is a specialty Laredo hand beaded & porcupine quill with small accents of onyx that was made @ the JACKSON HOLE HAT CO in Wyoming by the hands of one cool hippe chick.
The hand beaded hat band was painstakingly created, constructed with bead-and-quill. The band express designs and color combinations that echo the native cultures and iconography of the American Southwest. Beaded patterns alternate with horizontal rows of quills. The hat band was finished with leather ends and ties. The hat band tie nicely at the base of the hat's crown and attractively individualize the hat. This is a unique handcrafted hat band.

The bowler, not the cowboy hat or sombrero, was the most popular hat in the American West, prompting Lucius Beebe to call it "the hat that won the West". Both cowboys and railroad workers preferred the hat because it would not blow off easily in strong wind, or when sticking one's head out the window of a speeding train. It was worn by both lawmen and outlaws, including Bat Masterson, Butch Cassidy, Black Bart, and Billy the Kid. It is in America the hat came to be commonly known as the derby, and Wild West outlaw Marion Hedgepeth was commonly referred to as "the Derby Kid".

Made in the USA.
