Autumnal Thoughts........

Und warum ist das Trench?;)

Germany is beautiful, especially in summer.

Noise, dust, two-stroke exaust fumes, bad-tempered people (for understandable reasons!), general summer depression around the people, partly to less shadow and so on.
At least in June, July, August.
June got the horrible humidity, July is high summer and August can have the horrible humidity again.

People from mediterranean countries, coming to Germany in high summer, are of course totally irritated.

BUT:
Since 2015, it's a little different to the better side. Because of WIND. This curious autumn-like wind, making the high summer a little more enjoyable! :)
But I found my personal formula to make myself the high-summer halfway enjoyable. As little clothing as possible. Poloshirt, Seersucker shirt, Linen shirt, jeans shorts. :D
I think, Seersucker shirt is the best.

Starting to see leaves turning, and falling, here in Illinois as well. Autumn is coming whether the temps want it to or not.

Indian Summer is like a woman. Ripe, hotly passionate, but fickle, she comes and goes as she pleases
so that one is never sure whether she will come at all, nor how long she will stay.

Jeez. Just moved to a new climate. Will certainly miss Autumn. The tropics are great, but will miss that sudden nip as the weather turns. Recently had weird experience. We were having dinner with people we have had a long time familial connection to. We mentioned how we had just moved to Hawaii from Central Europe. One of our dinner guests totally “went off” on how horrible Germans are. I was totally flummoxed. Basically I responded that I had been living in a Germanic culture for the past 18 years and found my friends and neighbors to have been quite wonderful. To say I was astonished is an understatement. A few days later the lady called me and apologized. I’m still saddened by the whole exchange. Ah, human prejudices.

I like the idea of Hawaii for the culture, the shirts, the pizza etc. On the more serious cultural point, I read ‘Hawaiian Magic and Spirituality’ by Scott Cunningham several years ago. It’s the kind of book I could easily read-read because it is so full of information. It is about the authentic pre-Christian polytheism of Hawaii not the New Age ‘Huna’ stuff.
The only thing I wouldn’t like would be the climate - for precisely the reason you give.
I like Vienna and the Viennese and have found Austrians to be more laid back than Germans, with a nice dry sense of humour.

I’ll keep an eye out for that book, thanks for the tip. Someone told me pumpkin spice lattes are now available at Starbucks. That is as autumnal as it gets in Hawaii. :)

I can’t imagine life without autumn! I’d be happy to visit Hawaii but would need to come back to somewhere with four seasons!
The book is still in print and on Amazon.

No shame in living without snow. I enjoy every warm winter.

Each to his own. … I like the cultures, cuisines and languages of many hot places, but need a blast of cold air as well. That said I am happy with the North African winter and spring when it is warm and dry by day, crisp at night.

Leaves in the sugar bush are turning, and the corn is to come off early owing to near- perfect weather and rain this year!
