Nigella Lawson is not only a beautiful English rose but also is a quite exquisite daffodil. ;)

Oh you’re not still going on about that old lump of lard. ... On second thoughts, please don’t answer that.

I wish we had a ‘Goodbye’ magazine to nominate celebrities we don’t want to see ever again.

Oh but I must. Nigella Lawson may not be so well known beyond our shores, so Loungers won't know of her wicked innuendos:

I must cite that eminent Irishman, William Shakespeare now:

Beauty itself doth of itself persuade the eyes of man without an orator.

Cupid's dart scored a direct hit on my heart. Ahhh. :D

The Rape of Lucrece, I'm impressed.

I just can’t understand what you see in her - she just comes across as low class but with money! Most of her viewers are from that demographic. Perhaps you should start a thread about Z-list British celebrities?

Some press over here about a certain expatriate couple whom are cause for Dallas at the Palace,
or LA at the Palace, wonder how things are perceived over there, pleased or peeved; adverse public
cite might see such publication fly to press.

There are so many more important things going on at the moment that most people are fairly indifferent to be honest. ...Meghan’s mother came across as very dignified, but her father and half-siblings have made themselves look trashy by selling their stories to the tabloid press. And Harry is right about one thing: the British tabloid press is toxic; your nearest equivalent is talk radio.

In the future, it would probably be a good thing to slim the monarchy down a bit so that it was more along Dutch or Scandinavian lines. It would be a mistake to abolish it, but it does in the medium to long term need some reform. As does the ghastly British press, which is becoming a serious embarrassment as well as being more or less openly fascist.

There's something of a mix-up here. I only showed her photo for the benefit of those beyond our shores, that and the suggestive remarks she makes to describe her culinary efforts. She seems to one of those, famous for being famous, characters.

If you ever get a chance, read her brother, Dominic's, book: "The Inner Game." It's about Nigel Short, the the first-ever British chess player to challenge for the World Chess Crown. His match with Gary Kasparov was an historic one and Lawson's book not only provides an account of the match, but also the rivalry and tension between the two players. It's a riviting read.

I wasn’t getting at you at all. The Lawsons are a nasty right-wing family IMHO - not too distant in character from the First Family across the Pond from 2017-2021. ... But let’s draw a line under those people or put them on another thread !

To move the thread back to the seasonal theme, my dislike of daffodils is more than just aesthetic. I find spring a stressful and anxious time of year when I feel a lot is expected of me. I prefer the calm of autumn and the stillness of winter. Apologies if that is meteorological incorrectness!

I've made note to order D.Lawson's book which I will read with The Queen's Gambit.

Please allow me to express my gratitude for your posting fair colleen Nigella's photo. The other day
I caught a snippet of The Guardian's piece on her suggestive rhetoric. Sugar and Spice and Nigella is nice!

We’re just going to have to agree to differ on this. She really is ugly and vulgar IMHO as are her whole family.

I like many of the colours of early spring and the soft light. There are also some nice crisp mornings and nights. However overall I prefer the dappled light and golden brown colours of autumn (Fall) and I associate spring with upheaval and change rather than peace and calm.

I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud
BY WILLIAM WORDSWORTH

I wandered lonely as a cloud
That floats on high o'er vales and hills,
When all at once I saw a crowd,
A host, of golden daffodils;
Beside the lake, beneath the trees,
Fluttering and dancing in the breeze.

Continuous as the stars that shine
And twinkle on the milky way,
They stretched in never-ending line
Along the margin of a bay:
Ten thousand saw I at a glance,
Tossing their heads in sprightly dance.

The waves beside them danced; but they
Out-did the sparkling waves in glee:
A poet could not but be gay,
In such a jocund company:
I gazed—and gazed—but little thought
What wealth the show to me had brought:

For oft, when on my couch I lie
In vacant or in pensive mood,
They flash upon that inward eye
Which is the bliss of solitude;
And then my heart with pleasure fills,
And dances with the daffodils.

The dictatorship of daffodils?!

It’s a really great poem, and I love Wordsworth but it does sum up the spirit
Meteorological Correctness and the pressure to favour spring over autumn. ... It’s going to be a nice frosty early spring night here with a clear sky: I’m very happy with that!

Hmmmm seems there's more than just a little animosity here, and as an old fraternity brother was fond of saying, "discension amongst the ranks" LOL!
However not being familiar at all with Ms Lawson, I gotta say she looks pretty good to me. I'd say maybe even a little "foxy"! But not quite a beautiful as my daffidols, that even after an incredible cold snap are beginning to show themselves. Which to me means SPRING is coming! Which in turn means thoughts of baseball and love. Which brings us back to your Ms Lawson.....

Not mine ... She would be called Sampah Putih in Malay, I’ve worked out (I’m learning it as a lockdown hobby).

I get a SPRING in my step when the light and colours turn AUTUMNAL. But there are some beautiful early spring days, I grant you, especially when preceded by crisp mornings and followed by frosty nights.

I’m interested by your fraternity system by the way. ... I’ve known several American chaps who have been in ‘frats’ at college. I went to a men’s college which was similar in some respects.

We’ve just put our clocks forward by an hour and so it’s officially spring. I always find this transition disorientating for some reason - unlike the ‘fall back’ in the autumn which I always enjoy. And I already look forward to autumnal colours and soft light, which I find far more subtle and interesting.
