That is sort of an ancillary benefit. Squirrels, raccoon and possums don't grow on trees. I would never eat any one of those unless I was desperate anyway. The raccoons try to steal the cat's food on my porch at night. If I wanted raccoon, I could get five of them real quick without a single tree involved.

They're pretty good in the crockpot seasoned with worcestershire sauce, and maybe some carrots and new potatos.

I wouldn't have either if I didn't plant one and it grew like Jack in the Beanstalk big. I have enough to supply the neighborhood now. The vine grows HUGE. 20 feet by 20 feet is an understatement.

I've never seen one of those in the wild here. Maybe the chayotes ate them all. The other kind is pretty prevalent down here. The dudes with the saggin pants and giant rims on their beat up crown vics usually keep that under control though. Them or the hippies.
