$85,000 in the fifties was a ton of money! Wow! Musta been a nice place!
It was. The house we lived in here in Michigan before we moved to California was the nicest home as a family that we lived in, but we had a few nice one's there as well.

The homes I have now are nice, but that is another subject for another thread.

I think my grandpa said he built the family house in 1951 for around 15,000 or so.

Here in the States (or at least at my school) we used pencils to play what you call Conkers. We imaginatively called it Pencil Fighting. lol

One person would hold their pencil between two hands while the other took a whack at it with his pencil. Then they would alternate until one of the pencils broke.

My son and i picked a bowl of conkers the other day, i agree they're beautiful. i said we could have a conker match, as they are banned from doing so at school. When i was at school we used to soak them in vinegar to make them extra hard or put them in the airing cupboard overnight. T'was a serious thing the conker tournament!

Sloe gin anyone? That makes me feel autumnal, when i see lots of Sloes ready to be picked and pickled!

Ugh! We're at it again. We had a nice Autumnal weekend, but we'll be back in the 80s by the end of the week. Autumn doesn't really start here until October.

We had our little taste of Fall, but the 7 day forecast is all high 70's, which usually means 80. UGH :(

Oh. We have a lovely grey haar (sea-mist) sweeping in across Cornwall and have done now for days... the washing is all being dried indoors over the Rayburn (like an Aga but not so pretentious).... it's dark by 8am and still dark at 6...

.. the leaves are coming off the trees and the casseroles are going in the oven early morning...

... and we had our first home made chicken soup today.
