Pulled the trigger on a new moonstone Fed IV deluxe tonight... .6955 today was just too much to resist. Right now we are looking at the lowest USD/AUD since October 2008. Looks like .63 hit in October 2008... it soared to over a dollar not long after that.

I have a cart put together on EA as well, but I might have to actually ask my wife before I do that one ... ;)

I'd been meaning to order an Akubra Sombrero for some time, to be used as my replacement snowblower hat. Earlier today I ordered a size 8 from EA. The hat cost $103 Canadian or about $75 US. It seems that even the pathetic Canadian dollar is high relative to the Aussie dollar.

The hat should arrive just in time for our traditional New Year's blizzard. The dimensional brim is 5" at its widest & will facilitate keeping snow away from my eyeglasses; the eyelet vents will enable threading in a long shoelace for use as a rodeo string to combat wintry gale-force winds; the large size will allow me to wear a balaclava underneath the hat.

Sombreros come in any colour you want, so long as it's Fawn.

In the interim I'll continue using the Akubra Territory which I previously acquired as my snowblower hat. I had ordered it one size too big at 7-3/4 on the theory that I could wear a balaclava underneath it. That didn't work due to insufficient extra space for my nice warm balaclava, I had to go out & buy one of those thin things used by bicyclists ~ a workable solution but my noggin could've used a warmer balaclava so this time around I went up 3 sizes. I should point out as well that the Territory appears to have shrunk a bit too, & since I like its greenish coloration & can wear 4" brims, I intend to include my Territory in my normal hat rotation now that it's conformed to my head.

I actually think that the Territory is too nice of a hat for snowblower duty anyways!

Are you all getting ready for winter?

I like my Territory a lot, but I purchased it expressly to be a durable work hat. :) It's great in snow, rain, or sun.
