Yes it looks like a Talon zipper, but it says McCoy Made in USA.
I haven't seen any other McCoy jackets with branded zipper (not that I'm an expert either).
Any info on this?

I have this same M422a from McCoy's but have not taken any photo. Also my the Few aka Real McCoy's New Zealand 50s Wild one has the same McCoy's zipper stopper.

They are also used on Real McCoy's current hooded sweatshirt.
I suppose they may not be made by the same company as it has been such a long time.

Call me a weirdo but the collar looks fine, unless you really want to speed up the process via HWT. I'd just wear it!

If I get an answer from the original owner I'll find out the exact date of the manufacture, I have emailed him.

@eugenesque and @nick123
I haven't tried the hot water yet, it is still quite hot the weather in Australia at the moment. It is the middle of summer so to wear HH jackets is a bit excessive.
I will have to try it though, as the jacket is probably 29 years old and it is still quite stiff on the neck, so it might take another 29 years to soften it...
I will keep you posted when I start the process.

Given that it has been over 20 years, it is possible that the seller mixed up some of his jackets and their purchase dates. Photos of possible first batch of the 300 A-2s below for comparison.

and a very early model of RM A-2.

@Blackadder, you were right!

The original owner answered my question:

He went to an Aviation Convention in Oshkosh, WI. USA in 1987 and 1988. There was a stand of Real McCoy New Zealand selling A2's to the pilots an he fell in love with the A2 jackets on display there, but he couldn't afford one.
A few years later, 1994, he had a good job and contacted the company RMC asking for the same jacket he saw in Oshkosh and bought this particular jacket, the only A2 he's ever had and used as a pilot until he retired and no longer fitted him, he's 76 years old now.

Mystery resolved. [emoji4]
