Well, I was excited to finally find a Whippet I could afford. It arrived in the mails today and it really is a nice example. A pretty steely gray, good shape, all parts present, useful and accounted for, nice and soft.

So, the auction had it at a size 7.

This is where the "bad" comes in....

It is a size 7-1/4, not a 7. It floats around on my head like crazy. I am sooooo bummed.

After I posted this on the forum asking what I should do with this hat, I've made my decision. I'm keeping it.

So, I am a member of the Whippet club, I suppose.

I just finished ordering a new Whippet from Delmonico. It looks just like the vintage ones.

Really? I have to believe that looks can be deceiving. Either way, the important thing is that you get what you want and enjoy the hat. And I'm sure you will.

Looking forward to the pics! The new ones are factory bashed to a teardrop, not sure how the vintage set the same would look, but I think the crown may be a bit lower? Either way, they look like a really nice hat, and I'm very tempted myself. Still pondering on the Nostalgia, I wonder if that may actually be closer to the vintage? I'll be getting one or the other of these in the near future I think. I need something in gray (Caribou) and so far a vintage of that color has eluded me (then again, I've just begun!).

End of the week, most likely. This will be my second fedora. The first is the Dobbs that arrived today which seems like cross between a Western hat and a city hat. It has a center dent crease unlike the whippet. The Whippet is really getting pretty far away from what I normally wear. (western hats.) We'll see how it goes. I really like the Dobbs so I'll probably feel the same about the Whippet.

What size are you? I was trying on Whippets at Delmonico's on Dec 23rd. I tried on 7 3/8, 7 1/2, and 7 5/8. We might have tried on the same hat that they are sending to you.

Sorry, 7 1/8. The Open Road I bought from them is just a wee tiny on the tight side in 7 1/8 but it will be OK after some wear. The 7 1/8 Dobbs I got today is just a wee tiny on the loose side. No standards, I guess.

Well, I got a Whippet and thought it was a size 7 when I was first bidding. Then a note was added to the auction that it is really 7-1/4.

When it came, I was thinking of selling it, but after stuffing the band, I think I'll keep it. It's in great shape, anyway...
