Her dimissal marked the first time NASA has publicly fired an astronaut, according to space historian Roger Launius of the Smithsonian Institution. She is also the first active astronaut to be charged with a felony, he said.

When I was in the military, my supervisor went berserk (well, more so than usual) and went AWOL for almost 30 days to a "center" in Arizona. When she came back, she had some kind of "desk duty," met with a medical review board, and was separated from the military on psychological grounds. No doubt, she still receives some kind of medical disability, pretty much for being a flake.

Sounds like that is the same thing that is going to happen here. Funny how the garbage tends to rise to the top. ;) :p

I was glad when the news coverage of this died down here...as always, one journalist keyed the "profound-sounding" but entirely miss-named description,
"Love Triangle Saga", and every other journalist picked up on it and wore it out.
Saga? Hardy. Love Triangle? Is this some media euphemism for someone cheating on her family and then nutting out? Looks like it.
I can only offer the benefit of the doubt in that I don't know anything about her life, or what her marriage had been like.

Wasn't Jeanie just as pushy with Maj Nelson????? Mind you I could never understand why he resisted her advances, I often wondered if he was more interested in hanging out with the aptly named Rodger!!!

It's all about power, man. A lot of men are threatened by women with a lot of money, brains or clout--let alone one who could turn them into a duck.

Roger wasn't much of a threat to anyone.

At a big organization, it can be easier to transfer personnel than fire them. Glowing recommendations help.

I bet she got one heck of a recommendation. :eusa_doh: I suppose it sounds like government work. I know. My father worked for the Feds for over 35 years. It takes an act of Congress to fire anyone. You just transfer them to some poor unsuspecting sap department. [huh]

diaper doubt deny deny

say it aint so!

newslink

"The biggest lie in this preposterous tale that has been told is that my client drove from Houston, Texas, to Orlando, Florida, nonstop, wearing a diaper," Donald Lykkebak said after filing motions to suppress evidence in Nowak's criminal case. "That is an absolute fabrication."

The diaper detail became fodder for late-night TV comics and talk radio and even inspired an episode of the NBC show "Law & Order."

"It jeopardizes our ability to have a fair trial when the accused is the butt of jokes," Lykkebak said.
