Both of mine are beaver, but you won't be disappointed in a Gannon! Post more pics when it comes in.

I use Bickmore light and dark for my hat cleaners; white brush for Silverbelly and dark brush for Black.

What do I use for my Sage Open Road Royal Deluxe? Dark cleaner and dark brush? A dedicated orange hat sponge?

My Question: I'm looking at what might be my first ebay acquisition. I'm wondering why the price is staying so comparatively low on the "Vintage Dobbs West Hat 7 1/4 Beige 2X Felt Mens Western Cowboy Hat, Dobbs Box." Not that I think I've found a unicorn or anything, but is this a nasty hat? Maybe everybody already has one?

Not certain of the worth of it, but many auctions don't move much until the last few moments.

You never know with auctions. Fellow Lounger, Bob Hufford, put a 7XCB dress Western, basically a clear beaver OR, on the Bay with a $39.99 opening bid and $150 BIN.
I won it at the opening bid. I felt guilty taking it at that price.
As far as the Dobbs, if it's a Dobbs West, it isn't an old vintage hat. It's from the Hatco era. I have two of them, and both are really nice hats. They aren't quite collector hat's though.
That isn't all bad. The leather is younger, etc., and you can wear it without freaking out if clouds blow in or something. Hatco didn't want to destroy the label, so they are good, solid hats.
If you're looking at a Dobbs Western hat, you might be eyeing something with real collector value.
Good luck!

Hey y'all. I've been noticing some of the older pics have gotten blurred. I don't know if it's my computer, or doing it for all. I noticed in particular some of the old catalog pics in the Western Ranch Outfitters & the Miller Stockman threads. Wondering if it's doing it on your computers also, and if anyone knows whats going on.

probably more photobucket nonsense. A bunch of folks used to use it for photo hosting until they changed their hot linking policies and started charging. For a while they weren't even showing up, now it seems they appear until accounts got their bandwidth. I get emails about it but don't remember my photobucket log in.

Now that you mention it, I think they are the photobucket ones

It's not just you, it's a photobucket issue. As @jlee562 mentioned, they used to not show up at all. I guess technically a blurred pic is improvement?

There seems to be a quasi loophole if you search for a pic in Google images. The thumbnail is better resolution, but once you click on it to expand it gets blurred out. Not really useful for looking at catalogs but maybe good enough for hats.

Thanks for that. I do see some in google pictures sometimes. That may well be the way around it.

This seems to work on other sites, so I figure that it deserves a shot here.

If you've got a quick hat question and don't see a thread for it, just post it here. Whether the question is about cleaning, anatomy of a hat, brands, etc., this is the place.

Here's one to break the ice.

Hi everyone!

I’m a new hat maker and I’m trying to purchase my supplies/tools but it’s been a challenge since everything is so hard to find or expensive.

The 2 things I need most are:
- A rounding jack (or something comparable)
-A plastic Conformateur.

Does anyone know of where I can find them for less than $100 each?

Thanks in advance!
