I always hide my hat under my shirt if I have to walk in the rain for a bit, no matter how light or heavy the rain is.
If you walk under an awning, the dripping watter will stain your hat. It happened with my first Optimo, and it took a lot to get the stain out.
Made me think of this......came in the box of a Stetson 3X......."NO MORE RAIN SPOTS - SAVES THAT RIBBON";)

To each their own, but this is backward thinking to me--the hat is supposed to protect you from the elements, not the other way around. If a hat can't do that, I have no use for it.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again even though it has already been mentioned: Every dedicated hat wearer should own at least one Akubra, if for no other reason than to have it as a "dedicated rain hat". My Akubras like rain, and if one of them should somehow get damaged through exposure it can be easily replaced without breaking the bank. Say what you will about Akubra's hats, but that's certainly a better option that risking a vintage hat that can't be replaced as easily.

I have a Yorkshire Terrier I dearly love. I would never make him hunt rats. :D

I can certainly understand protecting a cherished lid, especially in extreme situations like Max mentioned. Who knows what kind of garbage streams off old scaffolding or gutters on the street? I wouldn't wear one of my delicate Panama hats in the rain...

... but I have no problem with a little sprinkle here or there on any of my fine fur felt hats out in this rural county where we live now. I suppose I would re-think that if we were in an area with acid rain or something equally detrimental. Umbrellas aren't used here anymore. If it's pouring, or heavy or constant rain is expected then we grab hats suited for the weather.

Have any of you see the Stetson West Bound B in the wild? It’s a strange hat that I find compelling but seriously flawed. My biggest complaint is the low crown. The brim and double ribbons give it a slightly schizophrenic feel. It’s listed in the Stetson Fall 2018 City hats catalogue. Curious to see photos of the hat on real people and get real buyers impressions.

One thing that will help with the staining is to regularly brush your hats. Often it is the dust on the hat that mixes with the rain that causes the water marks. It’s not a cure all, but it helps.

So, the election results are in...where will you be calling Home?

Damn! What a nightmare! The socialists/populists/demagogues not only won the presidency, but also both houses of Congress, the Senate, most of the governorships... Everything!
There will be no way to keep them from doing whatever they want! And that's bad any way around.

And on top of that, Mexico lost to Brazil in the World Cup, dammit!

I guess I will wait and see how they behave... My patients and friends are here, and it takes a long time to build a practice and friendships.

My brother is already talking of leaving, because even my father, who was twice a congressman and candidate for governor of the state of Guerrero, and is therefore very experienced in politics, is very worried.

Damn, damn, damn! I guess I will just have to buy some hats. That will cheer me up.

Only on some dude's Instagram that I don't remember. I like the styling a lot actually and have almost bought this hat about three times.

Can't decide beyeebe the Stetson stetsonian, grand Central, the Akubra Federation or Campdraft. Which one is better for a dressy (ie not workwear per se) 1930s look? Where can I find a less expensive (than buying it new) used ome? 7 1/2 or 7 5 8. Many thanks

That's exactly what I was thinking.

It would now be nice if I knew where to get a used one :p . I can't afford to pay for a $250 hat at the last shop in my area that still sells the discontinued hat.

try giving the Stetson outlet a call. Ask them to check the stock. Also give EBay a look. Sewmaster53 sells outlet Stetsons at good prices (there's one more guy who does it too, but i can't remember his username).

Unfortunately, you just missed JJ and Delmonico's fathers day discounts by a few weeks.

For what it's worth, the Campdraft has a bound brim edge as well, and somewhat of a flange so you can snap the brim up or down. The hatband ribbon is relatively thin though, which I'm told makes it "less dressy" than a wide ribbon.

Good luck!

The one that is best, is whichever one you like most. Have you tried The Village Hat Shop? I bought a Stetson Sovereign from there for a very reasonable price, although P&P to the UK, plus import duty put the cost up a fair bit. This is that hat and the umbrella that I previously posted.

Not for me, but some might like it. Wow, it even has a frayed bow on the trailing edge. Maybe kind of busy looking, and the crown is definitely too low for my taste. My wife and daughter might like it.... and all the others out there who have more refined taste than I.
