When talking about preferences and philosophies we are all going to come across others with whom we disagree. There will be times when we “know” we are right and the others won’t be convinced. The answer is not to remove our voice from the discussion.

Probably me.....though I aimed nothing personal at him....a few of us were discussing OUR dress preferances....NOT telling others what to do, let alone him, but seems a touchy topic for him..........but this is not his first time of leaving either.....will definitely miss his hats and hat knowledge.......though as before.....we may seem him come back and contribute some good stuff!!!

I love seeing Anthony’s hats and he has some serious knowledge when it comes to vintage and modern hats. I don’t always agree with him, but he doesn’t always agree with me either. I hope he sticks around.

and this conversation is not the reason for my leaving ... it just sort of solidified for me a feeling I had for a while ... that this place is not for me any longer

this place used to be a place of sharing and knowledge ... a place of gathering valuable information and references

it has turned into a fashion show of blowing kisses and an Akubra wasteland where actual valuable information gets buried

There is still a lot of good. Old contributors might fade but new ones will come along. Nothing is static and change is a universal constant. I just don’t think that the answer is to remove yourself from the conversation. There might be more fluf or pettiness than there was before, but there is still a lot of good and a lot of sharing of knowledge. You have to look past some garbage but there still are some diamonds to be found.

It reminds me of my father’s generation who hated contemporary music when it moved from big band to rock-n-roll. Sure, a lot of the ‘50s pop was light fluf, but there was some good stuff there too. Why not still love, and maybe prefer, the big band music and also roll with the times and add the new to your repertoire?

Anyway, I know that I have enjoyed and learned from your hat collection and hat knowledge. You have showed me some kindness and answered some questions for me. I hope you don’t go as we will all be less for that, but who am I to say what is right for you?

The Akubra threads on FL go back yrs, infact to the time when Akubra made the OR for Stetson. I fail to see how those threads interfere with the vintage expert threads. But somehow the Akubra threads are a flashpoint for flame wars. I made it a New Years resolution of mine to not post any longer in those threads & this is the first time I have even mentioned the name.

I do agree with your fashion show comment however. I live daily by an old Ancient Proverb:
