you said

"I'll roll the dice on a couple Open Roads"

that would make them Stetsons

hence my reply ... and yes they are one of the other companies that made thin ribbon hats in the early 60s
And you voiced that racism somehow has a part in the historical significance of the hats worn in the posted image, particularly by Leavelle. So I find the link to be an abstract opinion at best, inappropriate at worst. But since it's an opinion, I have no opinion on why you'd try to involve racism. However, if you are going to claim someone is a racist, you might provide links citing validity to such claims. A single, unconfirmed Wikipedia sentence notwithstanding.

Thanks you guys, now I'm wondering what percentage of my old hats were once owned by racists haha

Sent from my VS986 using Tapatalk

not a good chance any of them were owned by an open racist who offered extremely racists remarks to an author writing about a historical event

I involve it because he is an open racist who is known as much for his racial comments to Joe McBride as he is for escorting Oswald and Ruby

you act like I am just rambling and making things up ... these are recorded facts

And what do your (uncited) recorded facts have to do with the hat he was wearing?

just about everything

Jim (Fruno) joked saying that Jim was still alive and maybe he still had the hat ... wondering if he is 7 1/4

to which I joked back that I wouldn't want to own that hat of a known racist

what is so difficult to understand?

what in the world does this mean ?

maybe do a little research on Jim Leavelle ... it won't be long until you stumble upon his open racism

it is something widely known
You'd think a hat forum would be able to discuss hats, historical or not, without relegating a particular hat from a particular historical event to the trash heap of social irrelevance.

I've done enough research of Jim Leavelle not to associate racism with the hat or hat brand he was wearing during the Oswald shooting.

trash heap huh ? ... social irrelevance? ...hahahaha ok

is Jim your uncle ?

but hey .... lets only celebrate the good things about the man and forget all the disgusting stuff ... ya know ... like dropping N bombs to authors recording everything you say

but it's about the hat ...

Indeed, as you can plainly re-read, my original post was about the hat.

You brought Jim (and racism?) into the conversation, so I can only assume you have some aggrieved status at the hands of his inanimate Resitol.

As a courtesy to more balanced forum members, I will bow out of this hysterically hijacked "racism" line of posts. I will, however, continue to comment or respond to grownups who are able to separate a hobby from random misconstruations.

it was originally brought up in jest to Jim (Fruno) .. I was prepared to leave it right there
you could have easily ignored the comment

to me the mans open racism is far more striking and interesting than him escorting a murderer ... that and the fact that the murder of the President was no more significant to him than a "south Dallas N***** killing"

sorry ... just can't separate the hat from the man in this situation ... especially since it was worn during the the incident he made the comments toward

hey I never claimed to be stable or balanced

if you're looking for balanced you got the wrong guy

Wrong again. You brought Jim Leavelle into the conversation as a response to my "Zapruder" comment.

To you, incongruously, a discussion about a man wearing a hat is more important than the hat- in a hat forum. You brought racism into a thread about a hat. Own it. It's not a sin, but just own the fact that you couldn't stay on topic.

I brought Jim into it because you said ... "someone knows "

and I brought his racism into it because Jim (Fruno) suggested jokingly that maybe we could get our hands on it ... being our size and all ... I joked back saying I didn't want a racists hat

it really is pretty easy to understand ...

and I thought you were going to "bow out" and only respond to " grown ups"

no hard feelings

You heard it at the Fedora Lounge- Resistol = Racist.

Now there's a problematic ad campaign...
I've decided to research my vintage hat collection. So far, I've found some were owned by a wetback, a chinky, a jew, and a coon, but luckily, I haven't come across any racists

Hell, he might still have it. Wonder if he's a 7 1/4.
Jack Ruby was, or at least the hat he was wearing when he shot Oswald was. Made by Cavanagh Hats in New York, size 7¼ with a Cavanagh Edge.

It's mildly interesting to me that Kennedy is considered one of the reasons fedoras (and other male headwear) fell out of popularity in America (he didn't wear a hat at his inauguration)...
Hat wearing was in a serious decline long before Kennedy entered the public consciousness. Most "experts" believe the increasing reliance on automobiles had far more to do with it than a single man regardless of the fact that he was President of the United States.

...to me the mans open racism is far more striking and interesting than him escorting a murderer...
Ahem. Alleged murderer, if you please. Oswald was never tried for or convicted of killing then-President Kennedy, nor has he ever conclusively been proven to be the assassin regardless of the Warren Commission's conclusions. :D
