Good afternoon, I came across this Josef Pichler & Sohne hat which included the Austrian pin as shown. I am wondering if anyone would know the age/history/value of the hat. It is of no use to me but I would like to see it go to a good home where someone would appreciate it.

One of the most amazing things about this site is how much new information you can gain by just browsing different sites.......!
Well, I discovered that both of my Stephen l. Stetsons have the "Carter's Removable Sweat Band" !.......And one of them, the little round "connector button" (for lack of a name or term to describe them), came off ! Which is why I orginally thought that I needed someone to re-attach or re-sew my sweat band......Is there anyone out there that can share some expertise in this area? I found the tread on the Carter's Removable Sweat Band", however, I was wondering if anyone knows how to "repair" it (sew the button back in place), or should I just have the sweat band "sewn in" ! ! ! Thoughts? Suggestions???? Thanks in advance !

If you have the button, it should not be hard to sew it back in. You can look at the other buttons and see how it's done.

If you don't have it, it should be easy to make a replacement - or you could sew in another approx. the same size.

I would personally never sew the whole sweatband!

Ok, I was finally able to upload some pics; though some showed up twice for some reason. I've included images of everything that I could get a decent pic of; my camera wouldn't focus on the inside label for some reason and the Harvey Bros. logo on the band was extremely faded. I included the business card because of the old phone number and because it's just plain cool in my opinion. I hope these are helpful to you guys and thanks again for the helping hands and the free expertise.

I would try to "poke" the felt, so it bends a bit inward in relation to the ribbon. Then it should be possible to "sneak" the needle under the ribbon.

Ironically, the inside tag is one of the more helpful elements. In any event, from the black sweatband and the general proportions, my inclination is to say 60's. The picture of the liner is a little blurry, but does it say Byer Rolnick on it?

I agree. That hat (dimensions, look of the felt) screams 60s. From what I can see, it looks like the B-R emblem in the liner tip. They stopped making fedoras in what, '64-'65? to concentrate on Westerns.

Wow that's kind of a bummer; I hoped it would be older considering the old business card in the hat band. Ok now, in yall's opinion, is the hat worth getting fixed up? Also, any recommendations on where to send it for repair at a decent price?

It's still a fine hat, more especially if you like it. Byer-Rolnick always made a pretty nice product.

As for the tear in the ribbon, the photos don't show much, but it appears disconnected right behind the bow? If that can't be tucked under the bow and you don't know somebody who can throw a stitch or two into it, you may have to send it out. However, there are many tutorials and the like on ribbon replacement on the FL. Maybe give it a shot yourself? Or there are several reputable folks here on the loununge that can tackle it for you, perhaps. Maybe try Bond (look for finevintagefedoras on Etsy). Perhaps he would undertake the project?

I totally agree! And Bond, is a fair honest person to work with. He will not attempt to take a person for a "ride" when it comes to what he can and cannot do and what will or will not work! Got to love an honest person, right?!

YEP ! My Grandmother (and Grandfather) got off the Party Line in 1969 , I think (could be a year or 2 earlier , I was in 1 Picture), and it made Head Lines in the Local Paper . I agree with Cindy , and Fruno .
