stuff about merging threads
responses to stuff about merging threads
A little late to weigh in on this, but I think I see Moon's point, or at least have my own take. Sometimes a member may bring up a subject that is near and dear or situationally urgent for them, and before the matter is resolved, it can get sucked up into a previous thread with a different subject line. Sometimes the subject matter is only tangential and the Bartender, who has been here a while, believes it is appropriate to put into the previous thread. Sometimes that causes the discussion to get lost or derailed. It can get frustrating when you think you're having an important discussion on a certain subject to have it suddenly relegated to a thread which has been dormant for five years and it loses its "appeal."
GT, I also understand what you are trying to say. The "Official" Art Fawcett thread is basically for Art, right? If he has an announcement to make, runs a sale, or wants to share something, that is his place to do it. However, both threads contain similar elements, as FL members have also used the Affiliates thread as if it were the HOF thread, creating redundancy. Not certain there is a solution to this, as that would mean deleting "non-essential" posts from the Affiliates thread, which would likely upset some members and possibly lose some important information.
Some of the merging is fairly arbitrary (the nature of getting those pesky humans involved). As an example, I did a search the other day for Gus Miller/Batsakes threads. There are 10. Why haven't these been consolidated? I dunno. But when I go pick up my new hat Saturday, I'm going to want to post it to one of them. I guess I can just pick one, but there appears to be some good information in most of them concerning his hat shop. It would be nice to have it all in one place.
Two side notes: GT, I'm totally with you on the photos in replies. Especially on my phone, which I use to browse the FL about 2/3 of the time, my thumb gets tired scrolling and the thread can take a while to load when the same photos are posted over and over. I remember you commenting on this a couple of years ago. If members would just take a sec to delete the referenced photos in the reply, things would go alot smoother and it wouldn't eat up the FL's bandwidth.
And Moon, I loved the comment about "since Fruno's beard had pigment..." made me LOL. But I've been gray since my 30s, so, hey...
Wow. Long post.
