Actually, no. Neither site sells 'the boss of the plains', just 'the boss', which is a different hat. And Everything Australian sells the 'golden spur', not the 'silver spur', again a different hat

I thought the Boss of the Plains and the Boss were the same. I could be wrong.

Congrats on the new lid, Mr. S.

Pictures of your find will be very helpful. Until you have 15 posts, you can only post photos here by using a photo-hosting site such as Photobucket. You'll post the pics there, then link to them. It's a bit more work, but it works! Looking forward to seeing your hat, sir!
Thank you for the information. I am still trying to figure out this site. I am old, hahaha.

My Boss of the Plains is different from the Boss as displayed, never had 1 in my hands.

I know the exact Hat your talking about , Akubra Boss of the Plains , it had a Cattleman Crease , Nice Hat ! I think before Nungar updated their site (though it doesn't look updated) it was on there . Actually I think I saved a Picture from it . I'll see if I still have it .

Was this the Hat you were referring to ? Yeah the Old Akubra Boss of the Plains is totally different than The Boss , or as they (Kind of call it) The Boss of the Plains , but its actually known as The Boss , Willie Nelson wore one , modified a little , but it was The Boss in Sand . Not the Old Boss of the Plains Akubra used to make .

Please ignore the vertical faulty screen lines on the shot. That's what I do.

Michael, that is the same band but the cattleman crease has been long gone. It now basically looks like Jimmy Stewart's hat from all those westerns...

Thanks GTD , Like in Winchester 73 , The Far Country , The Bend in the River , ... etc. ?
th

I need to re-watch his movies , the one that sticks in my head is this one that he wore in several , but I know there were others , I just can't recall what they looked like . But that was the Boss of the Plains that Nungar had up before taking it down , I had thought about ordering it . Thanks . My first Akubra I saw was with eyeballs face to face , pretty sure in 1978 at a Rodeo . It was sharp , I asked what Hat is that ? The guy said Akubra . I said Akubra ? Never heard of them . He said , Yeah , made in Australia , Great Hats , they've been around , but you don't see a lot of them . It caught my eye , Super Sharp Nice Hat . I never forgot that one . Seems I asked where he got it , and he said he ordered it . But I don't think I had a chance to find out from who , or how he found out about them . It was the Best looking Hat there , that I know . He was a participant , not a bystander , I didn't pay attention to them . Broncs and Bulls were what we were there for , so I'm sure he was , too .

Hello! Question about hat blocks. If you are to make a hat 7 1/2, would you use a 7 1/2 marked hat block? Or would you go up a size to account for sweatband etc? Or is it that a 7 1/2 hat block is already a hair bigger to already take this into account? Thanks!

A 7 1/2 hat block, if you measure it, would be the equivalent circumference of a 7 5/8 hat. Exactly as you surmise, it is to account for the installation of the sweatband.

Excellent! I figured it had to be something like that. So a crown base that measures exactly 24" is likely for a size 7 1/2?

Has anyone had interaction with Montana Rio Co. They sell vacquero hats and they look beautiful. Yourhat.com

I'm gonna take a leap of faith and place an order.

I asked the same thing a while back without much response, I've been looking at their stuff myself. They're one of very few companies that seem to offer the vaquero hats. Please let us know how the order goes, seems like information on them is few and far between.

Nice looking vaquero hats.

Does anyone think she looks like the wolf biologist & behavioral specialist that is frequently consulted for various programs on TV? But I was thinking the wolf biologist lives in MN? Can they be the same person?
