hi guys. I'm still very new here so forgive me if this has already been discussed... Just wondering what people's thoughts are on the myth that wearing hats accelerates hair loss. Interested in hearing from fellas who have been hatters for a decent period of time. Do you feel it's had an impact on your barnet?

I think genetics & hormones are more influential on hair loss than hat wearing. I can't think of anyone who regularly wears a hat & has got a bit thin on top who wouldn't have done so anyway even without the hats.

Hey guys. As I can't get to a shop to try different styles on, I'm going to order one from D'aquino as was suggested earlier.. I just want some opinions from you guys first.. I would like it to have little or no taper on the crown, a slightly wider brim than the one in the photo below (it's 2.5 inches) and a couple of sizes bigger.. I'm thinking of getting it in gray. you think it could work for me?

I think it will be a good choice. Specify to Luisa that you want no taper and wish to have the hat delivered open crown (assuming you want to bash it yourself). For reference, the above hat is a D'Aquino in beaver. 5 1/2" open crown, no taper, 2 5/8" brim.

I asked this of my doc a few years back and he said sunburn on scalp harmed hair growth so hats would help unless they were worn so tight as to restrict bloodflow or so loose as to cause chafing. In either case the loss would only be at contact areas. I can't recall ever seeing someone with a bald ring around their head.

DSC01911.jpg DSC01913.jpg At 60 years of age, and a hat wearer for a lot of those years, I still have this left.

There are at least four threads about this already, Sol. You would be better served (for ALL your questions thus far) to do a Googoo search on subjects you are interested in and always add "the Fedora Lounge" at the end of your search criteria. Example: I typed in "hats and baldness Fedora Lounge," and got this.

Hats will have no effect on hair loss - wear and enjoy!

Not true, it is well proven that they cause near total hair loss in rabbits and beavers. Below is a photo from the lab testing;

That's "hare" loss, not hair loss.

Just stay clear of online porn.....that does accelerate hair loss & makes you go blind....:rolleyes:

So I should stop Googling for XXX Beaver with the safe search off?

Sounds good to me. Grey is a great colour, it goes with everything.
