Again, probably asked many times over but here we go. Just picked up my dream hat, Open Road Twenty Five Silver Belly and discovered the wind trolley button has a rust line on it.
-How can I remove the rust mark on the wind trolley button?

The short answer to your union stamp question is that stamp started in 1934. That doesn't help a lot with dating your Stephen Stetson hat.

Do you know what the red number means on the stamp?

Most likely rabbit or rabbit/hare blend. There were levels of Marathon & beaver content was probably in the Supreme Quality line.

Just checked. I have the SUPERIOR Quality. I suppose that's down a level from Supreme!

Unless I'm mistaken (which is certainly possible), paper straw and shangtung are interchangeable terms.

Just found this Open Road and I'd appreciate anyone's thought on dating it. I like the 4-way bash, but the coolest thing about it is that it was originally sold by a hatter in Medicine Hat, Alberta. Alas, the unfortunate thing is that it's a 7 - too small for my nog, so it'll prolly go up on eBay (unless someone here needs the curative powers of a medicine hat).
