So rather than go back through 100+ pages here I can just ask...
How far can you stretch a felt hat? Reasonable to go from 7 3/8 to a 7/58?
... without getting people mad at me?
Thanks

Reasonably, you can stretch a felt hat with a supple sweatband up one hat size = 7 1/2 to 7 5/8 or 7 1/4 to 7 3/8 JMHO
Anything more seems to distort the brim to much...

This isn't the type of thread you should read through. It's just the quick question thread, allowing for all the repeats that would otherwise result in new threads. Ask away. :)

Does anyone know what happens when the brim on a straw hat is cut to a lesser brim width? Other than being shorter, does the edge look like the original edge? Does it look worse? Does it start to fall apart? Inquiring minds want to know. Thanks my friends in advance....Dennis

Yet another question: does anyone remember what the sandpaper grit grades are for pouncing? I read it somewhere and now I cannot find it? I seem to recall there were 3 grades.

Why is it a ribbon on a felt hat, and a puggaree on a straw?

Felt slouch hats often have pugs, as do safari hats, while panamas often have standard ribbons. I think the reason you associate pugs with straw hats is that they are originally tropical, and so are more often seen on the hats worn in hot weather, eg straws.

This seems to work on other sites, so I figure that it deserves a shot here.

If you've got a quick hat question and don't see a thread for it, just post it here. Whether the question is about cleaning, anatomy of a hat, brands, etc., this is the place.

Here's one to break the ice.

Hello, my name is Kirk H. and I have a question that I have not been able to find an answer for in looking through other threads, so if it has been answered please forgive me in my lack of searching abilities. I have had a bunch of wool felt fedoras and am thinking of upgrading to fur felt. I am looking at the Akubra Adventurer hat. My question is does anyone have this hat and what are your impressions of it.

Thanks

Kirk H.
