Looking for details on wind trolley button diameters. I just purchased a professional grommet/button press for doing curtain grommets and then i realized with the proper dies i could probably make wind trolley buttons. So looking for information to know which did set i should get. What are the diameters of your wind trolley buttons?

My vintage wind/trolley buttons range from 9mm to 10mm. I've looked at the dies and would be comfortable with either the #16L or #18L. About 9mm and 10mm respectively. My modern Akubra button is at about 12mm with the fabric.

You're welcome. I don't have the right press so I've been using the Dritz buttons. Definitely can't achieve the perfect, finished results your press will give you.

"Hand" refers to the softness/smoothness feel of the felt. You'll see the same term is also frequently used in other forums here for jacket/etc. fabrics and leather: an indication of how pleasing the material's feel is to the touch.

It looks like a site called Workroom Buttons will get me a turned set for $85 plus shipping. www.workroombuttons.com i haven't contacted them get as I am waiting to hear back from www.homesewingdepot.com on their cost for a turned die set. Anyway, if you have a press there might be a way to get a die set for it.

I have an antique press that I use for rivet and snap setting for my leather work and I also have an arbor press from Harbor Freight that I've had my local machinist specialize for leather die stamping. I just ordered a set of the Osborne 16L button dies and they will go straight to the machinist when they arrive, but I can't see spending $200+ for the Osborne press when I can do a workaround for a fraction of the cost.

I told Ignacio "cuidado con las etiquetas" the first time I took a hat to him, and he rolled his eyes as if saying "of course". Every hat has had them in place when he returns it, so I assume hatters know how to take care of them, Bill. Ask yours?

My only experience has been loosing the tags during the cleaning process. If I knew a way to remove them before sending them off I would. I’d use double sided tape to re-install after being refurbished.

Question: is replacing the leather sweatband work something more....absorbative, easy? I definitely will need to replace the leather with something to soak up the sweat.
I'll also be removing the liner to make the Amish a bit cooler in the summer.
May take a trip up to NYC to see Kevin and get vent holes punched into my hat as well...

Opinions, ideas?

It's not black, it's not dressy, and it's not Amish per se, but SunBody hats offer an economical option for straws. They're super easy to shape and reshape, and provide plenty of shade. You can find a plethora of information in the SunBody Association thread.

I recently bought a hat on a flea market, and after some research i learned it's an open crown hat. The last owner knows nothing about this hat (except the fact that it belonged to his father). I am from Brazil and we don't have many experienced hat makers around anymore. I don't know if it's an open crown homburg or a fedora. Could you guys help me out here ? I'm pretty sure it's a fur felt hat. It is also too soft for a derby. The brand of the hat is Cury. And i heard it was pretty famous here in Brazil from the 1920's to 1950's. Although i wasn't able to find anything about it, the name on the sweat band and hat interior may be of the hat store.

Back bow fedora, probably from around the 60's.

Cury is believed to have been the source for the felt used in the original Herbert Johnson hat used in Raiders of the Lost Ark.
