I live in the southeastern US. How far up and down can I dress my Panama? If I were in white or black tie, I would likely go with a top hat or Homburg, respectively. But I can wear a Panama with a business suit in most situations, right? What about with a suit for an outdoor wedding in the evening, assuming neither white nor black tie is specified? How about wearing it with jeans and a short sleeved, collared, full button shirt?
I have other "beater" hats that I wear to the lake, when working in the yard, etc. But when I go to town I'd rather wear my nicer hat.
My opinion may or may not match the popular consensus expressed by the so-called "experts", but I think a Panama hat can be worn with anything from jeans-and-tee-shirts to a nice suit. I wouldn't wear one with anything more formal than a suit, but otherwise I think Panamas are quite versatile. That being said, if the Panama in question is showing signs of age it should probably be relegated to casual wear.I live in the southeastern US. How far up and down can I dress my Panama? I've been watching Poirot on Netflix for a few days and I love how he pulls off his suits and Homburg hats; always a Homburg! The guy is pure class. He even wears a silk scarf/ascot with his pajamas! It wasn't until about Season 10 when another character came onto the scene and was wearing a Homburg. Before that, everyone else was in some sort of fedora. Poirot has nothing on Justin, Moe, Steve and Matt! (a million pardons for missing any other Homburg wearing gents)(And Poirot agrees as well)
Poirot is the greatest! Suchet's portrayal for BBC is iconic -- not sure Kenneth Branagh can match his class.I've been watching Poirot on Netflix for a few days and I love how he pulls off his suits and Homburg hats; always a Homburg! BTW, I love the straw "Panama" Homburg!
This seems to work on other sites, so I figure that it deserves a shot here.
If you've got a quick hat question and don't see a thread for it, just post it here. Whether the question is about cleaning, anatomy of a hat, brands, etc., this is the place.
Here's one to break the ice.

funny thing is I have a source ... but they just won't reply to emails for some reason
they are on the last page of this catalog
