Looking for Hat Rack Ideas

Prior to my newly discovered hobby (Hats!) my main hobby is making or restoring stuff from car restoration, mechanics, wood working, cabinetry etc etc I dable in all sorts of areas....next on my list is to make some sort of hat rack. For those of you that have “modest” hat collections or at least a smaller # in a daily rotation (from a couple lids to a dozen plus) I was looking for some ideas or pics of some cool hat racks, I’d love to make something either out of wood or mixed media. Thanks in advance.

Looking for current info on custom hatmakers, wait times and starting prices. I am well aware of vintage silhouettes. A lot of old info comes up on searches. Looking to see who is still out there some of the ones mentioned around here seem hard to find contact info for. If there is an up to date thread please point me to it. Thanks.

Lots of great hatters listed by Moon and others above. I love my VS, Gannon, Penman and NW Hats customs. I wish I could grab a couple-three from all of them. It only takes money...

Thanks guys. Anyone know anything about Schafer Hat Works in Noble Ok? Ran into a guy wearing one of their fedoras the other day. I may have to drop by there if nothing else there is a local restaurant that has different sizes of chicken fried steak including this monster. That is one by the way not 3. They have smaller versions.

I need a little help please :

I purchased one of those wooden hat stretchers on Amazon and want to know if I should give the hat some steam while I have the hat stretcher in the hat ?

How long should I leave it in before I wear it ?

Thanks

A valve manufacturer that I used to sell for is headquartered in OKCity. Used to travel there for training sales meetings etc. Chicken fried steak, mash potatoes with the butter pooled inches deep I was convinced they were trying to kill me! But my fear did not get in the way of my appetite.

Gotta die from somethin', might as well be eatin' good. By the way my doc was horrified by that statement.

Different hats take to the stretch differently. I leave it in at least overnight to 24 hours. A little Lexol on the leather if it is a vintage hat. A little water on the felt and then slowly ease it out the amount you want. Some hats take the stretch and stay stretched. Others I need to do it almost for every time I wear it as it seems to revert. I have never tried to stretch a hat a full size. Just use the stretcher to ease out a hat that feels a little tight and it usually works very well.

Thank You for your response.

It is felt so I think a little water before makes sense.

I believe you'll find that the concensus here is that there isn't a fur felt hat that is really foldable. For travel, weather, etc I favor a Tilley or similar.

I'm going on a two week Alaska vacation/cruise in August. I'm going to take at least one fedora. I was just trying to figure a way to take two or three.
