my entire point

human contact with hats before purchase
human contact looking someone in the face who is selling you the hat
and contact with an actual building containing hats

the old fashion way
Like the olde way BEFORE Internet buying. Where you would actually call a store NOT WITHIN WALKING OR DRIVING DISTANCE... and actually SPEAK to a PERSON, get acquainted, talk about the item to be purchased and give them a credit card. UNLIKE PURCHASING ONLINE TODAY where it's all done by computer. As I said, to alleviate potential problems I always speak to someone at the sellers business first and then give them my credit card, the old way... BEFORE the internet.

Ditto , Ditto , Ditto , and Ditto ... , etc. . Go Open Crown , Go in and look and try on , if at all possible , if not , or first Call , it can work wonders (even stuff showing "out of stock") , it has for me . But if I was close to NYC , or any place with a HUGE selection , I'd want to see , touch , and try on . I've bought pre-creased hats (good hats) from the factory and the crease be off center (crazy , but it happens) , and the same Maker , Style , everything , size can vary from hat to hat , just feel different .

Kevin does seem like a great guy , but I was just talking about his advice on buying hats (same as yours Moon) , and examples of shaping , How to's , that stuff . I have no idea about vintage hats , that's why I (one of the reasons) started lurking on here , and just joined . The wealth of knowledge on FL is invaluable (priceless) . From vintage to new , places to buy B&M or On-Line , tips , and the good ole Show and Tell . And reviewing stuff like brands and styles , but nothing beats going in and trying on (if you can) . And if I could take any of you guys with me , or ask personal info on opinions , styles , pros and cons , Custom Hatter info , I would jump ! I look at the wealth of knowledge and taste in Hats that I've seen ... there are people on here that are experts on all things Hats !

There are deals to be had , but anyone that has eyes and can see , will spot junk , but the guys with the ability and knowledge to buy vintage Hats and straighten out some of the messes I've seen ... Hats Off to you ! And to the wheelers and dealers that know what they're talking about !

did someone in this conversation say to not call a store and get your panties all bunched enough to capitalize certain words as if I wouldn't understand your point without them ?

call the store
email the store
Morse code
send a pigeon with a f^$@ing letter
whatever....

all completely inferior to walking into a store and touching the merchandise before buying

if you are in proximity ... which he is ... then this is the best way and I don't even think it is a disputable proposition

I don't care if you are buying a hat , a car , a dog , or an umbrella

if you are able to get to the establishment ... go to there and touch it or something like it and see if they can get what you want ... in person

period
