My personal preference would be for the Balmoral (hemp weave). I would want to limit my exposure to polypropylene, I prefer a naturally occurring substance to that of a molecule designed in a laboratory (polypropylene). Outside of this, I have no found much information that supports one over the other in terms of ventilation.

Thank you.

That's an interesting take that I didn't consider. I wouldn't want hemp on my head cause some of the hemp chemical might rub off.

Just kidding, if the hemp did rub off I'd already have one. I'm all about the ventilation...don't care if it's plastic, hemp, or whatever gets er done.

Hi everyone, I'm hoping you can help me with something... my father would really like a hat for christmas like the pics I'm (hopefully) attaching below. I don't know what to search for to find something similar. Is it a tall bowler hat? Does it have a name? TIA!

Hey Guys....Long time no see...I'm back in the U.S. And back to the Lounge...

Please pardon me if this has been asked, BUT....Are the Lock & Co. Hats made for Brooks Bros. In U.S. sizing? This is a little after the fact, but last night I ordered a Lock & Co. Sandown Trilby from Brooks Bros at a very great sale price, less than $170. The salesman said over the phone at their Madison Ave Store said that their Lock & Co. Hats were in U.S. Sizing. So I'm a 60cm, consequently I ordered a 7 1/2... I see in their catolog every hat has the same sizing chart, whether Lock or Stetson...Now I see some older Lock & Co. Hats for Brook Bros on e-bay that appear to be British sizing....But I know Brooks Bros has had a special arrangement with Lock & Co since the end of WWII, so they very well could have been sizing arrangments made. When I asked the guy at the online ordering, he said, hey if it doesn't fit you have 90 days to exchange. But I do hate those kind of hassles..

Can any of you fine gentleman here put my mind at rest til my package arrives and I can try it on...

Sincere thanks in advance....

Looks like I'm going to answer this one myself in case anyone else may want to reference this in the future...

I called the Brooks Bros. Madison Ave. Store again and spoke with a manager....He assured me that all the Lock & Co. Dress hats they carried are marked with both the U.S. And Eng. sizes and when posted on their on-line site, they only post the U.S. Sizes. When they have an item that does not have the U.S. Size marked on the hat, then they list it on-line as the Eng. size.

It seems; according to him; that Brooks Bros. Hat Dept, is very much aware of the differences between Eng., French, and U.S. Sizing and try to cut down on the confusion by having all imported hats tagged with the U.S. Sizes since they are a U.S. Store. Makes sense, but in this day and time, I don't expect to see too much sense being made or too much concern for the customer's best interest....especially in retail....I loved to be proved wrong....I've been out of the country for a few years...

I should have the hat in 3 to 5 business days....We shall see, but for now I shall expect only the best, till I learn differently....

I'm trying to put a grosgrain ribbon on my hat and I cant help but think that a ribbon hat band ins nothing more than a western bow tie trimmed and pressed. am I way off base on this? has anyone tried a one-piece hat band. I'm going to give it a try today as soon as my fabric shop opens up.

Does anyone know a DIY method for removing this sort of stain? It appears to be dye from the black band carried by sweat into the straw. I do not want the expense of shipping the hat to Optimo.

So, anyone hear from TheDane? I know he was making a big move, but it's odd that he fell off the Lounge entirely. Anyone know?

Hello. Daniel has a hat with a similar problem. I attempted to clean the area but the cleaner took the "white" from the material of the hat off so I stopped cleaning it. Straws are a real pistol to deal with when dirty. Not sure but maybe you could contact Art Fawcett in an email and ask him what he thinks would clean it????

Merry Christmas also!
