I can't see myself paying that much, based on your description. I've bought a vintage Borsalino for half that in an antique store.

On the inside of my 1950's Penney's Marathon's sweatband, there is a stamp that says "LBC", and a stamp under that, which I am unable to make out. Any idea as to what these mean?

Hello,

my question is, how much difference is between rabbit- and beaverfelt? I have got a custom rabbitfelt-hat, now thinking about getting the nearly same one in beaver. It only costs 20$ more. So, is a beaverfelt worthy to get a new hat like the one you already have?

Beaver obviously is the best we can get, most fur felts are made from a blend of both rabbit and beaver or even all rabbit thus the cheaper prices.Beaver is also the most durable, instead of buying the same hat again why not try something a little different in style and if there's only a $20 dollar difference in price I'd opt for the beaver at least you could compare on your own then.(don't quote me)

Hello everyone I am hoping that I might get some advise and insight , I am looking at a few hats one is a stratoliner and another one a stetson "dune" .

I like the dune and it looks similar to the stratoliner , I might try to buy both of them and was wondering if the Dune is for lack of a better word is "acceptable".
I always wear a suit ,always vintage looking and was also wondering how that would work with my wardrobe in other words would it "pass" for the style and period and also if any of you member's own or have bought the "dune' in the past.

Thanks in advance ,

A Stratoliner would be a "dressier" hat for sure over the Dune. The Dune does have a bound edge, but it's got a really wide brim, which is fairly stiff, and shaped much like an Aussie outback hat.

Late 30's early 40's ,see the issue is that I have a ton of Fedoras but no hats with a bigger brim IE:: the "gangster look" type of hat with a bigger brim than the fedora.

I have shied away from hats with bigger brims in the past because I have a small head and don't want to look like I'm "swimming" in a hat .

However due to you kind folks on this forum who all pretty much said that I could get away with a little bit of a bigger brimed hat ,I'm going to take the plunge on stratoliners and saw a "dune" Gun Club that looks alot like the stratoliner also.

I've actually considered buying the Dune myself, came close a few times too. I handled one at the Berkeley Hat Store, which is how I can attest to the stiffness of the hat, and would definitely consider it more of an outdoor hat, especially with the ribbon treatment. Which is not to say that it would look bad with a suit, I think it could be done. Between the two, I would probably opt for the Stratoliner, but that's just my personal preference.

Is it raining FF?if not then I'm sure you're not all wet, sounds like you would really like one and if you don't like the look you can always put it on the Bay.Just my opinion. And I'm with JLee with a suit probably the Strat works better

Yea I have to agree with you on that .

Also after looking at the link that splintercell put up showing different hats on that guy, the Dune looks a bit too big as far as the brim goes.

In closing I have to say you guys are the bomb and thanks for the insight .

The dune is a very nice hat nothing wrong with it, but, the brim is so wide and seems a bit out of proportion to the crown height. The new Stratoliner is more in tune with a dress look to it. I have owned a few new Stratoliners and sold them. I may think about buying another as they are nice looking hats. The Dune in my opinion just is far too western looking as compared to the Stratoliner. Not to say you cannot wear "western" with a suit.

Dune is very wide brimmed = outback/western.
The Strat is a touch more conservative.

Just wondering what a fair asking price for a non lined Stratocaster 7.5 in great condition is, considering it was no more than 20.00 new in the 50's?
I ask because ebay has one at over 100.00 right now.
Thank you

The Stetson Stratocaster seems to sell for $550 new, the Fender Stratocaster, a bit more.

The Stetson Stratoliner is all over Ebay at the moment, many at high prices. It sold for 6.50 when it was introduced in 1941 and was a low priced offering in Stetson's line-up through most of its early life. Early examples are very sweet in my opinion... less so as the years went by. You can learn a lot about the Stratoliner and the DC-3 in this thread.
