Excuse me for bumping this, but I'm desperate to know what I might do with this damn sweat band. Should I just get a replacement? Can't seem to add an image though.

Leather conditioner should help you out, if you don't want a new one.

I have a question about computer settings. I don't know where else to ask it. I have two computers; both have the forum settings the same. One computer does not show avatars of anyone, it also has the command boxes faded out, for example, the boxes at the top of the Quick Relay area. They are there, but don't show up unless the curser is directly on them. Any ideas of how to solve the problem?

I use firefox, but it's the same on both computers.
Not sure about your exact problem, but I use firefox also and at times is does things that block out some images and using it for this site, I get "logged out" real often if I am not typing something about every two minutes or so, and have no clue why!

Not that this helps a lot, but I use I.E. and Chrome and both work the same on 3 computers that I use. Maybe if all else fails you can switch?

For Firefox, I would suggest doing a reset of all settings for the one that doesn't work well, also do a windows and Firefox update.

OK, a hat question - when a sweatband is stretched to fit a larger size, will it, does it shrink back? Does it need to be maintained by stretching it on a regular basis?

I just found an odd... all I can call it is a device... in a hat I just got in.

Inside the hat, under the sweatband, I found a piece of stiff, spring steel covered in a sleeve of knitted cotton. It is 21 inches long and about 1/8 of an inch on the flat side.
The steel has about 5 little pointed tabs poking through the cotton sleeve to grip into the hat body. When I found it, it was fixed under the leather sweatband at the base of the hat. There are no marking on it at all. Just the 1/8 flat steel inside the cotton sleeve.

I've never seen anything like this in any other hat. What does it do? What the heck is this thing?

A quick search through patents suggests it's either used to conform a hat to a more perfect fit, or it's used to improve ventilation. My guess is it's the former. What era and style of hat is it?

1940s era Stetson Homburg, St. Regis model.

It must be to conform "perfect fit" because the sharp little tabs aren't long enough to perforate the hat body, only just long enough to act as a grabber to hold its place under the sweatband.

You have to dump these things and get a Macintosh...No more problems....

Your problem is in how your browser is set up in the internet settings. Try Firefox or Chrome browsers and see if will be more consistent between computers. What version of Safari are you using?
