Looks like a porkpie to me.
Thanks Scotty, I'll throw some pics up when it gets here.

Bump

Any information on this brand, I searched but could not find much on the FL or Google... help :)

I picked this one up http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...dl54icU%3D&viewitem=&sspagename=STRK:MEWAX:IT

A couple pics of incoming conditions, and a couple after a brushing with a shoe brush (worked wonders) has a little smoky smell (advise) of eliminating that welcomed, and one pic of the inside of hat (liner has a few sweat stains but I really do not want to replace and do not want to risk hurting that hat.

No info for you from me, but a nice looking hat!

Got to love the image blocking at work.:) I sometime pull out the iPhone to see images in threads when reading at work. Though I wish the forum would use the plug in that the smart phone forum apps use instead of the mobile version of the site currently being used.

Okay, vintage hat question. What is that greenish gunk I sometimes see at the back of a hat where the sweat is joined, and meets the underside of the hat body? I've seen a recent reference to it having been easily removed in a naphtha bath, can it be spot removed with naphtha if one doesn't wish to clean the entire hat?

That is corrosion of the copper insert where the reed is coupled at the rear of the hat. It does not always come out, even with naphtha.

Thanks for the prompt and knowledgeable answer! Only have it on one of mine so far, and I've excelled at ignoring it ;).

Thanks, I was surprised that a simple yet good brushing actually worked magic and got this hat looking mint. I really look forward to wearing it out on cooler days.

Any tricks on removing cigar smoke smell, Is using fabreze a big no no?

Picked up this old panama the other day from a guy who was selling some estate items. Anyone know anything about its age and history? I'm assuming the Kennedy's sweatband must be a reference to JFK, early 60s. Looks like it was hardly ever worn and sat in a box it's entire life. I love the shape and golden patina. It's a size 7 with a 2 7/8" brim.

Nice Panama! Enjoy it, love the find.

Hat stretching question. I've got a wonderful vintage Trimble that has never fit. It's marked a 7 (I am a 7 1/8). I've used the wood stretcher we're all familiar with, but even leaving it on for a month doesn't quite get it (the hat may have shrunk beneath it's original size, though it frankly looks like it was never even worn).

Wondering if steaming the body of the hat while using the wooden stretcher will help it gain just a bit more size than stretching without steam? (I am close without the steam, just not quite there).

Steaming will help with the stretching, in my experience.
