I finally got a hat rack. It’s a little wobbly, but it is fun seeing all the hats out of boxes.

Wobbly. I hate it when that happens.

I may be missing the joke, but yeah it was one question. I added more context then needed though.
I sometimes don't understand my own jokes.
Please don't take offence.
I remember a time when one wise crack was met with another, and when nobody felt compelled to put smilies or LOLs in their text. I think we had more hide in those days.

Hats are a rarity in my city but my work involved days in high rise office towers. I would compliment people on their footwear...men and women. Sometimes they responded with smiles and a story, sometimes I would get an uncomfortable silence and strange stare. More positive responses from the men, more uncomfortable silence from the women. Perhaps they thought it some form of weird pickup line from a senior citizen??

I’ve noticed that a lot of people don’t know how to accept a compliment. A simple “thank you” is all it normally takes, but some people get flustered.

I too have had a compliment to woman be misinterpreted as flirting. Apparently, some younger women have come of age in a world where a man commending them on new their new haircut or for looking particularly well-dressed must be flirting. I now hold such compliments of the opposite sex to those who know me and know there are no ulterior motives. I also only give such compliments in a group setting with witnesses who can attest to the content and tone. What a strange world we live in.

If I wanted to just do a finishing touch on a hat that I feel the nape is a little long.

What kind of sandpaper would I need? I'm thinking a 600 grit but what kind (as there are diff ones for wood, metal, etc)? Or any other suggestions?

Thanks!

Tell them how much easier it was to get a reflection off of patent leather.

Occasionally and, like @hatsRme stated above, when I sincerely like the hat. I'll usually begin by asking if they can spare a few minutes to talk about the hat, because if I really like it I'll want to know who made it and where they got it.
I'm sure that goes over well on a NY subway at 3AM.

This could go in the Open Road forum, or even Western, Anyone? but it's more about material than anything.

I'm evaluating my Open Roads in 6X (Silver belly) and Royal Deluxe (Sage). They are both sharp as can be.

My question is about breathability. The 6X (somehow) seems to breathe better; it somehow feels less warm on the head than the Royal Deluxe, which feels like it holds the heat from my head. I've never noticed this with my Chatham Royal Deluxe.

I know this is a subjective question, but I'm interested to hear thoughts.

Yesterday I mentioned 5 Stetson hats I picked up. Two are 3x ORs. One I believe was made specifically for Shepler's western store. It has a unique liner.
The other is silverbelly, with no liner. At some point an attempt to keep a liner in it was made with white glue, and there's quite a bit of dried white glue inside.
Has anyone found a good method for getting white glue out of felt?
The glue is old enough that water doesn't soften it much.
