I have a black German Stetson "Stetsonian" in "Excellent" from the late 50's - early 60's.

I should have been more specific. I was referring to the recent and short lived “Pure Beaver” hats Stetson made as part of the reintroduced Excellent line. I’ve often thought that the dimensions and details of the recently discontinued Stetsonian combined with the felt of the recently discontinued Excellent New York LE would make an incredible hat.

I should probably post this in "How do folks react to your hat wearing" - but the most common reaction I get from people I work with is "how many hats do you own?". I usually answer "too many, according to my wife - not enough, according to me"

If you are trading with a fellow Lounger, I'd say you have a 99.9% chance of success. Other than that, I guess plenty of photos and trying to assess the honesty of the person you are dealing with. Or make the trade in person, so you can see the product before taking possession.

What Jim said. I’ve made several trades, some across the Atlantic, and all have worked out great. I have declined trades with some folks that I didn’t know anything about. There is an element of risk. I’d say never risk more than you can walk away from without being able to laugh.

Just an FYI to think on -- I always thought there was no way a buyer or seller could default on funds thru PayPal but there is a way a seller could if they keep little or no balance in their PayPal account & their account is not linked to a card or bank.

I recently had a return handled thru eBay & PayPal which the seller had agreed to. The seller kept zero balance in her PayPal account & after receiving the returned merchandise she took several days to refund my payment by echeck thru PayPal. The refund was shown as pending in my account so those funds were not available for me to use. It took an additional wk for the echeck to clear & the funds posted to my account. She had the use of my refund for about 10 days after the merchandise was returned. I'm not sure what PayPal could do or how long it would have been drawn out if the echeck had bounced.

I was under the impression that if your PayPal isn't linked to a bank, you're dead in the water. Though I could see someone selling something, de-linking, and diving "off the grid" to avoid paying. But that seems an awful lot of trouble.

In addition:
I have a PayPal account that is linked to my bank. When i started the account i transferred $500 from my linked bank to PayPal account. It was an immediate transaction.
I wanted the $ back in the bank so i “Paid myself”.
It took nearly 7 days to be credited to my bank!!!
Yeah, i think it’s PayPal living on the “float” AND the interest.
Think of the #transaction per day PayPal does. It’s Gazillions of dollars annually!
I keep a zero balance after that.

There is wool felt & then there is wool felt. Wool felt varies enormously in quality & so in durability. If durablity is your only criteria then prehaps you should look for other materials but if looked after, they will last quite while. Wool felt hats are great to practice on as they are far less forgiving than fur felts & so you learn what not to do. Also when handling, stretching & shaping wool felt, it is best to use as little heat & water as possible as it shrinks like billyo & once shrunk, even if you stretch it over a hippo's butt, it'll eventually return to it's pre-shrunk size. Also, wool felt bodies tend not to be stiffened since they are destined for the floppy women's hat trade so you'll need a truck load of stiffener if you want your hat to keep any kind of shape.

I practiced with wool.
I bought hats at the thrift store under $5, tossed them in cold water, and they became cones!
Scraping hot glue made some weak areas, and I did tear a couple. You do learn what NOT to do.
