I thought this was well known.
it must be nice leather. I always know it as the Rolls Royce coach built leather but never paid much attention to it. The rose smell is new to me. Gotta smell one soon…

Why does some leathers smell and some dont? My Double Helix Deviant smells sweet (like how I imagine horses smell like... Ive never been close to a horse) but my Double Helix Innovator smells just like regular leather. Like my GF's LV bag. It came from the same tannery, so idk whatsup.

Is it age? Was my innovator manufactured earlier so the smell disappeared and now it smells like the shop I got it from? Does your Double Helix smell?

I read hinki has a distinct smell as well/
yumm…. Leather smells…. all good.

yes I also fine that different shop has different smells. I guess leather picks up smells easily and depending on the different storage they can pick up different scents too. The same leather can smell totally different coming from two different retail sources.

It smells pretty nice but I don't know if it smells like roses haha. Here are some clearer pics:

Looking good. Yeah the exact hide only Aero would know. Is the little white tab label still in the hand warmer pocket? It usually says the machinist and date, and then maybe Aero can pinpoint the exact leather from that.

That’s the question ain’t it. If it is it may be worth saving.

Jackets will state HH on label. Most HH MC jackets had red lining, Steerhide commonly used black, assuming OG. HH had smaller zips, mine are 5 Conmar. Steerhide had large Talon zips (mine had the oversized and longer Talon pull) seen in the 60s and on. No idea if the zip on this one is OG.

@Leather Walker I can check pockets and other details. HH ones are rare so want to help if you need/want.

My gut says steer. The steer is nice btw, but can be found in mint condition for that price.

Does the original MA-1 jacket have shearling or Alpaca fur under the outer shell?

As far as I know the B15c and d series (ancestors of the MA-1) had an alpaca-wool interlining.
The original MA-1 (introduced in the mid/late 50's) I think it had a wool/cotton fiber interlining, though I am not 100% sure.
The MA-1 pictured here is not the original one. The first version of the MA-1 had no orange interior shell, this was introduced in the 60's.

Thank you @Will Zach @JMax! This is the third Fidelity I've found in the stores here, this was the cheapest. Not visible in the pic, but the main zipper was a replacement (I guess the original was a 10 Talon).
I'll keep looking for other hidden gems.

I bought this jacket because it seems to be an USA made schott that has a chance to fit me and it was in good price. And I like how it looks too.

I am wondering though, does anyone know what model is this? Is there anywhere an index of all schott models?
It's not any of the current models that are on schott website, so it must be discontinued.

Could someone help me identify what type of leather this is? I'm thinking it looks like deerskin, but I may be completely off:

The massive grain tells me it's sheep. I cannot see the stiffness you mention in the photo. And matte is just a question of finish. My money's on sheep, but I am willing to hear opposing arguments...:)

Anyone knows how Badalassi compares to CXL steer/horse? The chestnut Badalassi looks pretty nice, but I'm afraid it might be too thin, or perhaps it isn't?

In my experience it's only marginally thinner than CXL (depending on the cut) and has a softer temper. It is by no means a thin leather. I had a jacket in Badalassi which I had to sell for being too big, and I intend to get another jacket in that leather as soon as I can. It's some very nice stuff, maybe the nicest cow leather I've seen.

I have a PHWM in Badalassi and one in CXSH. Both are the same weight and feel the same thickness. However, I had also wanted thick Badalassi.
