No it won’t ruin it. After a while it will show wear where the straps and the backpack touch the jacket. I used to wear a backpack daily and I also wore a cxl aero jacket daily. Cxl shows wear easily.
Don’t worry about it. Isn’t the charm of a leather jacket that it will break in to conform to your body and your lifestyle? I wouldn’t want my leather jackets to look like new for forever.
thank you! that eases my mind a little bit. i wouldn't mind scratches, scuffs, or anything like that. Im worried about deformity, like stretching. like the jacket looking funny overtime because of shoulder stretches. but this answer is reassuring enough to wear my jacket with my backpack to work. thank you kind sir!

another question. there is a sale going on right now at aeroletherclothing.com. how much fees should I expect on top of the jacket price (delivery fees, custom charges, etc)?

@bien Aero list price less 25% (divide by 1.25) plus shipping (£40) equals your total price out of UK. Depending where you are in the world, convert the Pounds into your local currency and then add your local sales tax.
For Canadians there is only HST (12%), no duty.
For Americans there is only state sales taxes on amount over $800. Which I think most of the sale will be under. So nothing.

Another question. Why does the general recommendation for treating a leather jacket with leather conditioners so different comparing to leather boots? Most recommend never treat a jacket with anything for a long time but people treat boots once or twice a year all the time.

Boots and leather jackets are often made of similar materials like horween cxl or badalassi cowhide (boots maybe use thicker hides) so I dont quite understand why one should be treated and one shouldn't.

I don't think jacket gets the same wear and tear as boots. At least for me. Anything closer to the ground is going to get beat up a lot more. But I also don't baby my shoes either. The soles will wear out before anything major happens to the body.

Also, shoes/boots get damp every time you wear them. All these cycles of getting damp and drying afterwards dries out the leather. Thick dried out leather needs to be reconditioned, otherwise it will crack.

Getting the action back in an Action Back.

Just picked this up (Schott Perfecto 654?) for a pretty good price. However the action has got up and gone....

I am UK based and wonder if anyone could advise (Thinking @Marc mndt here) How to and who might be able to do this for me (and if it would be cost effective)

Jacket is straight out of the post so not yet cleaned up.

there's an elastic band that runs across the mid back. You can feel it through the liner. If it's limp, it needs a new one. Any seamstress can pull this off very easily and without causing harm. Small cut in the liner, take out the old one, stitch in the new one. Probably $20-30 tops.

Now you did say "action back" though. These are more shoulder gussets. Action back runs the length or most of the length of the entire back. So not sure if you're talking about creating that? I'd highly advise against it.

edit. btw, that model is awesome. I have it in brown. Not sure it has a name, but it's based on Beck 666. It's most closest current model would be a Caf1

because people around here have probably 10:1 ratio between their jackets and their boots:D, so it makes sense the boots get more wear compared to the jacket rotation.

I don't have many jackets, and I live in the tropics so I treat my jackets as often or more often than I condition my boots, since my boots is protected with wax from shoeshines. while my jacket get more UV exposure and salt from perspiration and not protected by any kind of hard wax on top unlike the toe cap area of my boots.

Haha I dont have too many jackets as well and would like to try keep it that way.

How often do your jackets get worn every week and how often do you treat them?

Thank you for this, I think I mixed my terms sorry, shoulder gussets it is.
I will give it an examination for the band.

Leather is really good on this! slightly concerned that my shape might not fit it's style but we shall see..

Has anyone seen trucker jacket designs with back gussets? I'm familiar with the Wrangler jackets which had them sometimes... surprised no one else has really done them. Just trying to get some ideas.

Just had an examination and I cannot feel any hint of a band. Where a outs would it attach? At the base of the shoulder gussets?

Probably mid point of the gussets going across. Feel around. One side might have snapped and now it's dangling. In any case, take to a seamstress. They'll know what to do.

Looks indeed liked the 654, an early one from the late 60s. They indeed have a band to keep the gussets in place.

my fav jacket of the time usually get worn 3x4 times a week. That jacket I inspect before every wear ,wipe down the collar after wearing them if I think I sweat on it, I brush it to get rid of dust collected on the bottom of the creases when it feels dusty, I condition it lightly with my fingers on areas I feel dry or feel crispier not necessarily the entire jacket, I do that whenever I feel the need to, I don't have set time, depending on weather and season, I live in the area surrounded by volcanoes, sometime they are more active and jacket and everything else get fine dust allover, these dust are nasty I think they have lots of chemical in it very good for plants to grow on but bad for metal or painted surfaces and I suspect also bad on leather too.

Jackets I don't wear often, probably I inspected them once every few months, I dust them off lightly with horse hair brush if necessary, I live in the tropics so we have many flying insects, some of this flying insect like to drop their tiny eggs on any surfaces, TV edges, phone, things you don't often touch, leaving a group of yellow dots, so I inspect for that too, easy to spot on black jacket harder to spot on tan jacket, I clean them with wet tissue. I condition them lightly if I feel dry areas, I rarely condition an entire jacket in one sitting, I probably do that after I wash a jacket or on a vegtan jacket once or twice to alter its softness, but normally I condition dry spots. I drop a dollop of conditioner cream on the center of my palm, touch it with the tips of my 4 fingers, and i spread it more evenly with my thumb, and I touch and massage the dry spots with the tip of my fingers

Respect to @navetsea and guys who wear jackets in tropical climates. Hell, in NYC summer or even warm late spring or early fall I can't even fathom wearing a leather jacket, and these guys have tropical weather year round. That is true dedication to our hobby.

only in october I have problem with wearing them really, I live in higher elevation and the wind is cool here even when the sun is scorching, in october we normally transition into wet weather that creates humid warm days sometime the air feels thick and wet and not moving at all, only on those days I can't wear jackets.
normally here as long as I walk in the shade, or sitting around in a room, it would be windy enough and chill enough for me to wear jacket, if I would out pedaling my bicycle in the sun... even 13oz type 3 would make me drenching in sweat.

Thanks Marc, that is the jacket..
Mine is a 44 but the same proportion of fit.

Trouble for me is I have a hollow back, so jackets ending this low don't generally hang well. I will give it some petard love and see if we bond, otherwise I may have to flip it.

Best
Al

Mine is a 44 too and the fit is quite generous. I might even say it's a bit big...but there's just something about this jacket that make it look badass even though the size of off.

You might want to hold on to it for some time, see how it works out for you. Maybe the appreciation will grow :)
