Not sure about a whole inch off the back, but a little would be good. The front could drop down some for sure. Keep the zipper starting at the bottom of the belt. Did you ask for rounded tips on the collar? I think this needs points. Shoulders and arm length look good. Maybe a more aggressive point on the back yoke, and double check the back to make sure the leather doesn't puff out.

Wow, add 2” in length to the front? Let me get another pic of the front.
Nah, just the difference between the back length and the front length. I'm not sure about its current drop but it looks like 1'.

Make the back 1 inch shorter and make sure it has a 2' drop. You might end up with the same front length as-is.

Could you measure this...

Apologies if this has been asked before.

How warm is the wool lining on a Freewheelers jacket? I'm interested in the brand but I have some reluctance since I'm in southern California so if it is as cozy as I'd expect I think I could only wear it during the coolest season.
My wool lined FW jackets really don't feel much warmer than my flannel lined FW jackets. The wool lining is only in the body on mine and switches to cotton flannel in the sleeves. They are warmer than my silk lined RMC A2 was, but I wear them in socal all the time in weather below 70F.

Not sure if I'm asking this in the correct thread since I'm one of the FNGs.

What's everyone's thoughts on Vanson? I believe they are known for making racing jackets/gear. Came across this jacket and really enjoy the look (leather color with brass hardware). I know price/cost/value is subjective but as someone still learning about quality jackets, $825 seemed like a decent deal. I enjoy learning from everyone else's experiences.

I have a Vanson I bought in the 1990's. It's a perforated cafe style jacket. I stopped riding by the end of the 90's so I didn't push it to the limits or anything, and it only got summer wear, but quality seemed very good. Amazing for riding on warm days. It would let the breeze right through while offering protection.

I have a Vanson Oxford in abyss blue Bainbridge on order from Thurston. I also have one in comp weight and while that leather lacks character (1.6mm corrected top grain), it is the best fitting and most comfortable leather jacket I have. The shoulder and armpit gussets makes this slim jacket extremely maneuverable even with the thick leather. Construction is on par with Aero, Lost Worlds, Schott, etc...

Thanks for the feedback! I saw that Vanson Oxford on Thurstons site. I really like the Dark Maple color. Hope to see how yours turns out! The one I posted is a pre-order so wanted to see what you gents said before pulling the trigger on Vanson.

Quite a few members swear by Vanson!

The only one I’ve handled was one in their over the top horsehide and it was too small for me. That thing was built like a tank.

A search in the Outerwear forum for threads with Vanson in the title will do a lot of work for you. As will a search for Vanson on the What Jacket Are You Wearing Today thread

Oh really?! In your opinion what makes them unanimously awesome while other brands have a mixed public opinion? Quality? Value? All of the above?

Thanks for sharing. I see i came to the right place.

The only real information impressions or information I've found about Victory and Liberty horsehide on the web has come from this forum - so that leads me to a question I've had for awhile: How do you tell the difference between Liberty and Victory horsehide? My secondhand Duke is presumably regular seal, Victory horsehide, since that is what it was advertised as. However, the main distinguishing feature I've gathered from reading discussions on here is that the finish/topcoat on Liberty horsehide wears off significantly faster. My jacket has been getting some pretty serious wear this winter, but I wouldn't say the finish is particularly hard wearing. I'm including some pictures here to show off the wear/patina on the collar, under the arms, and at the sleeves. Like Mich486 said, I could easily believe there is a lot of batch-to-batch variation with both leather types, so some batches just get finishes that adhere better than others.

There's a dearth of information about Victory horsehide online, so I don't have much of a comparison point to say weather this is normal and expected wear for this leather type. The way it is wearing doesn't really bother me - I quite like how its developing actually, but I thought I'd submit the question since I have no way to directly compare the two leather types myself.

It's also an excuse to upload some siiick pictures of that patina. :D

Pretty sure it is actually Liberty Horsehide. @tmitchell59 thinks so, and there aren't very many people on this forum that have seen and handled both, so I'm inclined to agree. I'll email the number in the inside of one of the pockets to Bill Kelso to get a definitive answer at some point - just been too lazy to 'cause it barely matters to me.
