As A Kid, What Were You Like?

I was a quiet, introverted child (still am quiet and introverted to this day). I spent more time reading, daydreaming, and submersing myself in my little interests (classic movies, cartoons :D ) than I did talking to children my age. You could say I was very sheltered, as well. My mother never let me out of her sight for very long.

In high school, I either sat alone in the lunchroom or with a couple close friends. I was the studious type in high school. Before then, I was constantly picked on for being the tallest and most quiet in junior high. Yep, my childhood years were a testament to solitary activities: video games, books of all kinds, music, and fiction writing.

Shy or outgoing? Painfully, painfully shy. Not the I'm so shy but I'm in drama shy but shy to the point of it being debilitating shy. Being an only child didnt help.

Active or a couch potato? Always outside until the streetlights came on.

What was your favorite toy? A stuffed bunny, my purple bike & roller skates!

What sports, if any, did you like to play? Gymnastics from 6-12 and ballet from 6-18. Anything that didnt involve teamwork or others. hehehe. Sigh.

Were you small, regular, or large for your age group? Just regular.

Can't say I was shy. Talked to everybody. Played with everybody. Not afraid of strangers either. Which gave my parents a hard time. One morning I woke up long before them - it must have been 4 oclock - dressed and went down the street. A milkman with his horsedrawn wagon was outside. I asked if I could ride with him, and help him deliever the milk. I did that for two hours - had the time of my life. Which my parents didn't.

Guesse I was active. outdoortype - boyscout from I was 7 to 19!!!
But I also read a lot of books. Lots. Especially history. Went to the public library every week.
Also had this crush on animals - all kinds of animals. Went to the Zoo every week too. Just to whisper secrets to a mountain lion.

My favourit toy? As a kid it was my teddybear. (Still loves teddybears)
Later on I played a lot with toysoldiers.
A modelbuilder too. Battleships, planes etc. At one time in my teens I had 12 model aeroplanes (Lancaster, Spitfire, Hurricane, ME19 etc. etc. )hanging from the cieling.
But the big thing was my pencils. I've always liked drawing. Still do it. It actually got me to what I do today. (Advertising.)

Sports? I hated sport! Especially team sport. Soccer... urk!
Just like I hated school. Could not wait to get out.
And when I finally got out, I thought about being a teacher!!! Even studied for half a year, before I realized it was school all over again...

I was taller than the average. (Still is.)
Blond and curly. Untill that summer in -56, when my father, who had just been to the USofA, took me to the barbershop and gave me a flattop!!! A divorce was lurkin in the horizon....man, was he not popular with the rest of the family!

What a funny thread this is. It sure bring back memories of a very happy childhood...the sun was always shining - except in the wintertime, where we had lots of snow. All the time.

Me, aged eight, wearing my first ever fur.

Shy or outgoing? Outgoing definately. Getting me to shut up was a problem!

Active or a couch potato? A bit of both. I climbed trees, waded through streams, made dens but I also was never happier than curled up with a book or painting my nails.

What was your favorite toy? My babydolls, dressing up box, tea set and my mother's make-up

What sports, if any, did you like to play? Ballet and tap dancing, I wanted to be a Tiller Girl and marry Fred Astaire. (I was an odd child with very understanding parents)

Were you small, regular, or large for your age group? Tiny. I was always short, sadly not so skinny anymore :p

I was loud and proud and at times as wild as hell. Over time, my life experiences jaded me and took most of the loud and proud out of me.

I loved to play cowboys and indians and army. Played baseball and ran track but for me sports was more of hunting and fishing and camping and hiking. I don't hunt or fish very much at all anymore but as often as I can get away I still enjoy camping and such.

I was always tall and skinny. Most say that I still am tall and skinny. I stopped growing taller at 6'1"

Shy or outgoing?

Early childhood, shy. Teenager, anything but.

Active or a couch potato?

About 50/50

What was your favorite toy?

My old GI Joe's with "Eagle Vision" (They're not "dolls", they're ACTION figures :p )
I used to dress half of them in clothes that I made for them though* because you couldn't get any Axis clothing for them, so I talked my mom into buying some dye and letting me dye some green clothing gray, and I took black. white and red cotton thread and a needle, and sewed on German collar tabs, armbands, cuff markings, iron crosses, etc, onto them, and had big battles of US/UK vs Germany in my back yard complete with explosions**

What sports, if any, did you like to play?

Rugby, soccer, football

Were you small, regular, or large for your age group?

I was extremely undersized for my age until my mid-teens

*No comments please. I was just "creative" :p
**Inverted shotgun shells placed in the ground 20 feet away, being fired at with a Daisy to set them off. Do NOT try this at home, kiddies. Amazed I lived and didn't get maimed. Of course, parental units only found out AFTER the battle.

Shy or outgoing?
When I was young I was painfully shy. However, once I was comfortable I would talk incessantly. That grew into just being rather personally distant, but extremely noisy and talkative.
Active or a couch potato?
Very active. I lived half of my childhood in various fantasy worlds imagined in the woods behind my house. I started reading a little later than my siblings, and for the first few years, would not read fiction, but once I got going, I couldn't get enough to read.
What was your favorite toy?
I really liked lego, fischertecnik, and other building toys, as well as Playmobil, and G.I. Joes. Although, my favorite was probably the big box of costumes, and the props that went with them. I made wooden swords for a long time too.

What sports, if any, did you like to play?
Never was much into sports. I did a little fencing, and I swam. In high school I played football for a season, and baseball for a season. I generally did musical theatre instead.
My athletic side went into my dance. I tap danced for 10 or so years, and studied ballet for 4 or 5 (after already doing tap for however long that was).
Were you small, regular, or large for your age group?
.

I was maybe a little on the tall side, but nothing abnormal. However, I was always the lightest for my age, until high-school, when I grew to be much taller than everyone else. Then I was just skinny for my height.

Shy or outgoing?
In the middle. I was the class clown, but I didn't really have many friends; nor did I care for any.

Active or a couch potato?
Extremely active. I was involved in sports all year around, as well as boy scouts. I spent every moment of every day doing something. Whether I was reading a book, playing outside, playing a video game, playing a sport, or just getting into trouble.

What was your favorite toy?
Probably my Nintedo, and mainly because it allowed me to escape much in the same way books did.

What sports, if any, did you like to play?
Loved baseball. I hated football, but I played it. I quickly lost interest in soccer and basketball. Enjoyed chess, but wasn't all too good at it.

Were you small, regular, or large for your age group?
I was always a tall kid, but very skinny. Always larger than the other kids.

I was a very active, but relatively reclusive.

Fat & a hellspawn. I tried to be outgoing in school, but it always backfired on me. I hated most authority because I always was wrong. Even when I was right I "went about it the wrong way." I hated shcool for the most part. There were only a few classes that I enjoy, woodshop & horticulture come to mind. I did just enough work to get by. I remember in a math class I coulnd't do the work the way the teacher showed me but I found a way that worked for me. But because it wasn't the "proper" way, I was again wrong so I just did enough to get a D+.

Okay, I presume that we're talking about pre-teen years, so...

I was shy around most adults, but not too bad around other kids.
Pretty much active. Played "war" a lot with friends, as well as baseball. I did watch a lot of television, though, including old movies.
Favorite toy was probably some pistol or machine gun...
From what I recall, I was regular for my age group, although often taller than other boys in my class photos, and a bit "husky" in the thighs...(Remember "husky-fit" pants?)
