A little Google-Fu revealed this was created by Hungarian artist Emerico Imre Toth, using a palette knife and brush, and is titled "Old Man with Pipe". Some of his work features women in various states of undress--nothing vulgar, more along the lines of studies of the female form--so anyone who wants to see other examples of his art online should probably use discretion.

great book, always hated the bits with the king and the duke or whatever title the other joker had assumed, great illustrations, especially like huck's pap, and 'poor white'.

I couldn't find the "Arts and Crafts With Hats" thread, so this ends up here. When I caught a glimpse of this in a thrift store window, thinking it was a real vintage lid I turned around and parked. Quite a surprise that needed to be shared with y'all!

They make birdhouses from Western hats & boots all the time. Some of my old boots have been turned into cactus planters. Here we call that "yard art".
