Great hat Tofu, and you wear it well. Great bash. Did you do it or Art? Also, what's the brim, 2"?

Also love the Blue Smoke. I think I see one in my future (though my wife'll kill me).

Art did the crease job on it, and I've been fiddling with it ever since, so I guess it's a kind of a collaborative crease. lol The bash had fallen out of the hat during shipping, but the felt has wonderful memory, so it went right back into shape, no problem.

I just measured the brim and it's just about 2.5".

Thanks for the compliment :) Blue Smoke seems to be quite the popular color...

Tofu, I've been pondering my next Art hat and your creation is just what I was generally thinking of but couldn't quite put my finger on, if that makes sense. Your hat is IT!!!!!! I may have to copy your beautiful lid. You have hit a grand slam!!!!!

No, that makes perfect sense. I'd be honored to have you copy my hat... it means I must have struck onto something awesome. lol I'm so glad it's turning out to be such a hit. I wasn't expecting that from just a simple tribute hat... :)

Feltfan, that is a beauty of a hat. It looks like how a cool breeze on a hot day feels.

AdmiralTofu, I never thought of Jack Webb as being a stylish guy until I saw the Randolph. I just put on his version of Try a Little Tenderness in honor of Art's work on that hat. Well done!

Wear them well! Best, Sam

PS Since today is St. George's Day, here is a link to a true homage to Jack Webb, Stan Freeberg's St. George and the Dragon-net

Thanks to everyone who commented.
I could be coerced into taking more pictures
of this hat for the curious. That one kinda amused me.
Give me a few days.

Don't miss WEEGEE's Spumoni (Spumonis? Actually,
Spumoni is plural- a single one should be a Spumono),
earlier in this thread:
http://www.thefedoralounge.com/showpost.php?p=203138&postcount=12
Scroll down.

Edit: I note that the blue porkpie hat is the "Sammy D" and the one with the same colors
I have is his Spumono.

A question -- perhaps Art himself can answer? If I remove the brim binding on this Hoosier, will the stitches show, or is the beaver felt such that they'll close over and I'll have a perfect raw edge?

I like bound brims, but the ribbon color on the edge is just a touch too red/maroon for me.

Anyone tried this with a VS?

:arated: I also dig how the lid works with the aloha shirt.

The color is Pecan and I didn't have any particular motivation other than Arts other good works. The brim is 2.5 inches and I left in in his hands. It has no model name. I think tomorrow I will re-bash it with tighter lines. To avoid the "memory" the felt has I believe I'll wet it down with water unless anyone has a better suggestion. I'll probably iron the front of the brim to curve down a little too.

Very nice hat. I would be nervous about ironing it. I would just work the brim by hand. The felt is very soft.

Thanks. I kinda liked the way the green "S" made an appearance.
BTW, Lefty, the big black hat hanging just to the right of the
Spumoni, whose contour you can just barely make out should
look familiar. It's in rotation.

Okay, okay, here are a few more pictures of the hat.
For some reason the sage green, a minty light green,
doesn't seem to come out in the pix, whether or not
I use a flash. Might be best in that first picture. This
one gets the color okay, but it's a much nicer green:

This one might give you an idea of why I sometimes think
of this hat as a felt boater:

Love that big bow.

It's not this blue:

And it's not bell shaped, in spite of the cheezy lens on my camera:

PS: as long as I was taking pictures, I shot a couple of unusual Western hats for that
thread... off to post them now.

Steam works fine and is pure water. If you decide to use water, use distilled to avoid any sort of fading from the chlorine in tap.
