That looks really sharp, Bart. How dark is it? I've been wanting to get a gray, but I want a lighter gray.

Thanks Bob. It is fairly dark and definately a BLUE-grey. The picture on my screen is pretty true to the real color

After some back and forth with USPS, I got my first work Art Saturday- The Sportaire. Great hat! Worth the wait and anticipation.

Now debating my second VS. Poking around the Hall of Fame thread, and seeing tons of great stuff. But I don't see any VS hats in "Steel." Anybody have a work of Art in that color?

Besides Bart, anon has one as well. In fact, I was inspired by both of those hats to order my own "steel". I asked Art for a Steel Trackside with a 2 1/2" brim. It shipped on Friday! :eusa_clap

Photos ASAP. :D

Steel is a very dark grey, maybe around the shade and colour of a slightly damp piece of slate? It's got bits of blue and green in it as well (not flecks, mind you, but those hues sometimes manifest under the correct light conditions). It's also a very versatile colour: goes very well with all sorts of blues and greys. In fact, mine came about when I called up Art a year or two ago and basically asked for a chameleon hat, that would compliment the natural-coloured Wall Street that I already had.

Personally, I'd put steel (or a very similar colour) alongside a lighter, shale-grey and chocolate brown in my top three colours to have, if so limited.

Grey Ghost

Welcome StylinLA;

Ask Art to send you a picture of Grey Ghost. The dark purple ribbon against the grey body is way cool.

Purple ribbon with a gray hat makes my mouth water. I second the request for a peek at this marvel.
On an unrelated note can anyone tell me just how green Dark Moss is? I see some pix that make it look very green, but the sample I have is more of a green hint. Any other pix of the Goodfellow out there would be most welcome.

Sargon,

I have a Goodfellow and the green without lighting to the natural eye looks green. Under sunlight or artificial lights, the green looks as is in the pictures, but if you have Art's swatch samples..it's dead on....I really like this hat!!

Art just emailed me yesterday that my custom BLUE SMOKE hat is ready...I ordered it the first week of December...it will be a smaller crown of 5 1/4 and a brim of 2 1/4, bound edge...I wanted Art to do a Law enforcement, Thin blue line hat for me...so pics will follow when I get it.

Here are some pics of the goodfellow

Thanks for that! Not many pix posted of that particular masterpiece. Maybe the swatch doesn't look so green because it's small. Is it tough to match with clothes? I suppose a scarf with some green in it would set it off.

No...I just wear it..it's been worn with a dark navy trench, navy blue suit and would work even better on light grey suits...

I wear a lot of slacks with Tommy Bahama shirts as my business casual with hats...that's as formal as I get next to a suit...

here are some shots in the sun

I found myself staring at the stitching on that brim binding... wow.
I will never be able to do that... Nice hat.

Finely bound edges are truth, therefore...

I adore wide edge bindings, so I say, 'bravo," to that.

Mister Fawcett's skill with fine stitches is impressive. It is a wonder to me that he can make as many hats as well and prolifically as he does. I can barely thread a needle, much less sow anything precisely.

I just got the Dark Moss Sportaire and it's really a much more versatile color than it would seem. It's a dark olive color that's really a classic neutral color.
It's almost impossible for a photo online to really show it for what it is.

I'm pretty finicky about making hat color work with suit or jacket and I'd wear Art's Dark Moss with blue, black, brown or olive. It would probably work with most grays as well.

Beautiful color, the ribbon treatment is perfect, as are the dimensions.

I'm still looking for THE green hat. If I had money to spare, it would most certainly be an Art Fawcett.

custom VS Thin Blue Line hat

Well...My new custom Art Fawcett creation has arrived....

I wanted Art to make me a tribute hat, being I am a police officer and I wanted one that would pay tribute to officers killed in the line of duty...so I told Art what I wanted and the pin I was planning to put on the bow...

the pin is the Eternal Blue Line flag. www.thinblueline.org
When I recieved the hat, I didn't know how or where I would put the Pin. I asked Art and he told me to put the pin in the knot and it would signify a cross. I hadn't even have thought of that, but Kudos to Art for that also.

Art, once again has out done himself, I really like this hat.

BLUE SMOKE, 5 1/4 open crown, 2 1/4 bound edge brim, royal blue ribbon, purple liner (Art said he doesn't have blue liners)

The VS Thin Blue Line hat:
