That is beautiful and the ribbon work is AMAZING. Oxblood? That looks dark but I wonder if the oxblood is lighter in normal light? :eusa_clap

Art pretty much had carte blanche on this. I wanted the color in silver belly and the look of the "forties" and no relation to the Stetson brand. I did want a welt edge as I really dug some of the welt edges I saw at Monteagle.

Well looks like I have another obsession, oh well too bad, no guilt just digging the fine craftsmanship of Mr. Fawcett

Wow, I wouldn't have guessed that. Or maybe there are a few, but obscure. Either way, it reflects a very low demand for hats over there, no? They haven't got the contagious hat microbe yet?

It is the Oxblood... the only thing I asked was a two-tone boxbow and Art delivered up this perfect model!

Hats are more common in the USA because of the western hats still being current fashion. Meaning, the hatters are already set up so adding the odd fedora to the range is easy enough. There are far fewer of us here too.

Fascinating. I had no idea what is happening styles-wise in other countries, and didn't spend a moment wondering until "hats." Given what you say, then as a child of the 1960s I take pride in participating in the attempt to spread a style Eastward. In other words, I am so used to receiving the top styles in music and fashion from the U.K.--British pop, the "mod look" (reaching way back), Twiggy and the other models, and even now with many of our more successful reality TV shows--that I am not used to us being a style-giver to the U.K. The exceptions being British importation of Elvis and R&B type sounds earlier on, and whatever they're doing with hip-hop now which I am unaware of. So, maybe North America now has something to offer Europe, which is to re-introduce mens hat styles that started out as theirs.

Sir, you have got the oldest hat store in the world! the same people that created the coke (bowler/derby)hat, famous for serving some royals and the cast and crew of the recent Sherlock Holmes movie ..Lock & Co

as a side note they still send out catalogues, as i can attest to having just received one all the way from the other side of the globe... its the same hats as on their web site, but a nice bright colour booklet-you dont get glossy colour printed catalogues too often nowadays eh!

its a long way from here (understated!) but if i was in the UK i would make the time for a visit

I am aware of all the hat shops in the UK and have been to many of them but none will make a hat from scratch to the individual order so far as I know, and that is what I was talking about.

It`s out....the new Sunset color!

I have received my next new color and have the first two "on the block" with one going to a client in Tn that doesn't post here and the second going to the one & only D'guy. The color is "Sunset" and as soon as I have a finished hat in a clients hands I'm sure it will be pictured. In the mean time, please envision "Camel" with lighter brown base and red overtones. Not quite peach but not quite camel. It's a color that Portis came out with in the early '50s and I was lucky enough to have found a new felt hood for many years ago. I actually made a hat out of it for AndyKev so Andy loaned the hat back to me for the purpose of duplicating. Thanks Buddy, it didn't come out exact in color but boy, what a great summer color!!!
