This is a Montecristi I sent to Art to be refurbished. It arrived back to me today. I never thought I'd own a Montecristi this nice. I know what I'm wearing for worship services tomorrow.

I’m glad you got it! I’m thinking about a Wanderer clone so similar to your Playboy.

It was really bugging me not to be able to get another hat from Art before his retirement from the business... and that Glacier felt looks grand. I want a hat that can be a daily driver if wanted; versatile, wear with anything, wear casual or dressed up. You get the idea.

I only have the one silvermist felt and the Panama straw Art made for me. I just had to have another felt!

I've never lucked into a vintage Playboy when I had any money, so I figure this will do me just grand.

The Wanderer is pretty much similar to the Playboy but with a bound brim, isn't it

Yep. The bound brim is all that separates the Wanderer and the Playboy. I don’t have anything against raw edge brims, but I generally prefer binding or welting.

What ribbon color(s) are you considering?

I always struggle with ribbon colors so I told Art to use his expert judgement and choose something to complement the Glacier color. I do have an idea for the bow, however.

I'm going to tell Art to hang onto mine for a while when it's done. I would LOVE to see a picture of a half dozen of the finished Glacied hats all together just to see the variety of shapes, styles, and ribbons we all choose.

Im stuck on black, or....

charcoal grey might be neat. Just a few tones off from black, so still have strong contrast between felt and ribbon, just dialed back a notch.

I have more charcoal ribbons on custom hats than any other color; it’s hard to go wrong.

I've kicked around navy, charcoal, maroon, black, green (sage or forest), salmon, and dusty rose.... but I'm missing a grey hat with black ribbon, and I really miss that combo in my lineup.

You going to make Art sad. To quote Mr. Fawcett "I can't imagine anything more boring. Grey hat, black ribbon, uggg" :D

True, I DID say that :D
I remember that! But when I read it I thought, Darn... that's exactly what I was wanting to order!

I've had 2 gray or granite hats with black ribbons but sold them both. One was too big, the other had a stingy brim I didn't care for....

My thinking is, classic colorway, something I'll wear a lot!

I've got the silvermist / burgundy for flash!

The gray with black ribbon fedora is akin to a black balmoral cap toe dress shoe: a versatile staple that will gets lots of use, is rarely “wrong,” and is unremarkable and boring. Spectators and saddle shoes are more fun, but not nearly as utilitarian.

I’m strongly leaning towards allowing Art to have free reign and make me that hat he chooses.

I have never had the courage to give a hatter free reign to design and build a hat for me. I have however told them to pick a ribbon from their selection that they think fits best. It was a hatter that had built me many hats and knew my taste. It worked out great but the choice was well within my parametres of acceptability.

I'm hoping to see about 10 or 11 glacier felt VS fedoras, and lots of pictures before my ribbon work gets done so I have plenty of time to change my mind before Art needs a final decision!

I have 3 pair of spectator shoes, which i dearly love, but my black and brown shoes get worn much more often.

Maybe a highlight in the bowkeep would work for me, lol....
