Hello Gents,

Allow me to introduce myself... My name is Brad, and I wanted to come on here and tell you all what you already know- ART FAWCETT ROCKS! I just received my first fedora from Art, and I am walking on air...what a hat! It certainly won't be my last.. Wore it for the first time last night on the town, and the compliments were non-stop.... I should mention that I live not too far from Art, and had the privilege of visiting his shop, getting fitted by the man himself, and selecting the materials (with Art's expert eye for advice!)... he also rebuilt my 10-year old Montecristi panama from the ground up... just in time for summer! I'm excited to be a part of this community, and a huge THANK YOU to Art!

Brad

Hi Brad, and welcome to the Lounge!
We're keen to see your first VS! :) Did you take any pics on your visit to Art?

Dry-creasing a diamond shape on a Winchester LITE felt

The short vid shows a step-by-step crease, then back to open crown and finally a quick crease. No sound.
Please be aware that the dress weight Winchester felt reacts differently; more often than not, it will require steam or distilled water (or rain...) to set in the crease, especially the side dents. A dry-creased diamond shape on a dress weight felt may hold its shape - as long as the center dent with side dents is set in place by steam or water.

The picture quality shows room for improvement...

The VS goes 3D! Bravo!

Rabbit, Your collection showing presently on Art's site is driving me mad, I tell ya'!! You have some absolutely stunning pieces- I'm envious! The thought crossed my mind to bring a camera with me on my visit, but I was in a hurry when I left my place, and it slipped my mind... doh!!! I promise to get some pics up ASAP..... dumb question- What does VS stand for??

BR, Thanks for the welcome... weather is overcast and gloomy presently, but I will get some shots of the hats up very soon.... I feel like a brand new proud papa with twins!
LOL!

The VS is Pecan with a subtle greenish 19 ribbon, no brim trim presently as I thought living in the country dictated a less formal approach, and Art said we could add it later if I wished and I thought that was a good option, so I'm giving it a go sans trim for now... Art put in a diamond crown for me... the interior is red with Art's signature... Art created a red wedge in the center of the knot of the bow, rather than a stripe.... it is way too cool and slightly different, which I like... I am like a kid in a candy store on this forum, looking at all the spectacular lids you all have acquired... I've got a ways to go to catch up with everyone here.... it's just great to meet up with so many others who share the same interest in fine hats!
For what it's worth, I am a tobacco pipe maker by trade... if anyone wishes to add that look to their attire, I'd be pleased to help out... they are completely handmade, including the mouthpieces....

Best Regards,
Brad

Sounds like the perfect design for the lovely countryside of Oregon. Subtle greenish ribbon and red liner, awesome! A raw brim on a Pecan felt must look terrific. I'm a big fan of raw brims even though I chose the bound brim treatment on the majority of my VSs.

One of us has to be handy with a camera........There should be a video of Art at work, from start to finish, with sound. The world at large could benefit from this. Any documentary makers out there?

WOW... I miss a day or two here and this thread exploded!!!
Thanks for the pics Rabbit AND the video. I'm gonna keep that on the desktop to use as a learning tool for hat newbies.

Brad, it was a pleasure working with you on the hat and am SO glad you are pleased. When it's convenient, these guys are always wanting "head shots" to see how the hat and colors work together on you and I don't have many Pecan's pictured. I would be grateful if you would post some.

Dogrocketp, I dunno, you think the world is ready for a "back room" tour? I'm not sure I'm ready to give up ALL of my secrets but would consider working with anyone interested and had the time.

Welcome, Brad.

Brad is not just a tobacco pipe maker, he is, without a doubt, one of the finest in the world. His pipes are highly prized and sought after. I collect pipes and am proud to own two of Brad's, which are the two most beautiful and great smoking in my collection. I had the pleasure of meeting him at the NASPC pipe show in 2008 (I think it was) and I can attest that he is a gentleman as well as a great artisan. We're lucky to have him entering the fedora world.

Don't mention it, Art. :) I'm glad you can make use of it.

Art, I guess you could casually hide the hard-earned secrets of the trade while filming your work - you know, just sort of naturally excluding some steps from the public eye :D

Just be sure to avoid the situation outlined below. :p

I had a feeling it was the same Brad! CPT/VSG, would you consider, if you haven't already, posting some of your collection over in the "Connoisseur-- show us your pipes" section of this forum?

Sorry to be OT.
