Arnold Hats

Unfortunately , the sad news is that another hat store has closed. Arnold Hats , in business for many years in Manhattan closed on Sunday . The main reason was the economy.
It is sad that in a city like New York , there are not enough people to support a decent hat store. Althought there are a few other ones around, Arnold Hats (or Knox Hats) had a great selection and was a family run store for three generations.
Whenever we needed a hat we would call them and vice versa. We sent many customers to their store as they did to us.
They will be missed.

Sheesh.. I was talking to the owner a couple of months ago and he said business was doing o.k.

I happened to be strolling around Manhattan on Saturday afternoon and noticed that there was a pile of trash outside Arnold Hatters and it looked shut down. Very sad. They were great guys.

I stopped in there ten days ago and though I couldn't find a hat to suit me, I bought four Puggaree hat bands.

I'm glad I stopped in and I'm glad to have spent a little bit there, but I'm sorry to see them go.

That's brutal.

Back when I last worked in Manhattan (mid-90s), my job was on 8th Avenue and I made a point of checking out their (old) store frequently. And I wore one of their "Raider" teardrop fur-felts as my main fedora for something like 15 years. (I had gotten it in the late 80s when they were still "Scott Hatters".)

Really sad to hear. I would have thought that if any city could support a multitude of hat shops, it would be New York!! I am sure there were other factors, but whenever I think of cities that are the center for hat wearers, it is New York.

Very sad news. My first ever felt hat-- and straw hat too-- was a black, quite inexpensive wool fedora.I bought there. The were so nice and helpful. Very sad to hear.

from what I know, we have both Bencraft in Brooklyn and JJ and Worth&Worth in Manhattan. Any others that I should know? I'm honestly deeply sad about Arnold!

I think they're may be several in Brooklyn that cater to the orthodox Jewish community. There's also one down in the financial district that was discussed here recently, but I can't remember the name of it.
