Aristocrats & Ghostbusters 70s Saturday Mornings

I just saw the Aristocrats and Larry Storch was featured, only I didn't recognize him until the end credits rolled.

Everybody remembers F-Troop, but who remembers The Ghostbusters featuring Spencer (Storch) Tracy (Bob Burns - superfan - as a gorilla) and Kong (Forrest Tucker)? I do, I remember watching it with my dad on Saturday mornings. It was a little bit like a half hour Bowery Boys meets a Brooklyn Gorilla every Saturday. Okay, That makes it sound better than it was... It was like a vaudeville act, though, goofy, creaky and slllooowww.

Anyway, I liked it.

Probably not. It ran for only one season. There were a few episodes on a video I saw once, collected with other Saturday Morning 70s era stuff - including commercials and Schoolhouse Rock bits - but that was not an "official" release. I'll scout around to see if it's on tape or dvd.

It's so goofy you might have had to see it as a child to appreciate it at all.

Believe me, this is Shakespeare compared to the 1970 TV show, Lancelot Link: Secret Chimp. Fedora-wearing secret agent chimps. What a concept, eh?

I remember them both

Vaguely.
Spencer, Tracy and Kong had a filing cabinet which Storch couldn't open or one drawer would open when he close another. I remember it having cheap sets, cheap production and cheap jokes. However it was better than the astronaut show with Chuck McCann and Bob Denver.:eusa_doh:
I used to watch all the spy shows. Lancelot Link even had rock videos performed by monkeys. It seems all kid's shows had that then: The Archies, The Bugaloos, etc. I believe Bernie Kopell did his evil German villain voice that he used in Get Smart except, you know, as an evil german chimp villain. I probably still have my old Lancelot Link comic book.

I believe that the name of Lancelot Link's rock band was ... "The Missing Link".


It was a short hop from Lancelot Link to Austin Powers.

That's all I remember of the theme song, but I did watch that show for that one season, and I remember when the movie came out I complained 'They did that already!'

Lancelot Link was also one of my favorites as even as an eight year old I had a penchant for theatre of the absurd.

Now, does anyone remember Doodles Weaver?

I remember watching Ghostbusters as a kid but for the life of me I couldn't remember the ape in it till I saw that picture. I loved Lancelot Link.

How about those Sid and Marty Kroft acid trips disguised as kids shows, H.R. Puffenstuff and Lidsville. On reflection maybe Lidsville was the beginning of my fascination with fedoras.

In Canada, at least in my little slice of it, we had a show called The Hilarious House of Frightenstein. GVincent Price did the intros. Very weird stuff.

Oh man! I remember that show! Yeah that was mondo bizzare. I watched that every day when I got home from school.

Yeah, we had Frightenstein in NY. I was under the impression that it was shot in NY at Channel 5 studios (where they did Wonderama) I don't recall the Vincent Price intros. Perhaps they were added later. I think the show ran from 75 - 76. The green guy, whas his name Mr. Sloth?

Maybe you mean Igor, who fed an animal you never saw called Mr Sloth. This show was a trip. One guy played a dozen different characters, and the psychedelia was psychodelia-ing. crazy! It was filmed in Ontario's steel town, Hamilton (the HAMMAR!) at CHCH which also produced one of the funniest kids shows ever: Harrigan. The station's weatherman showed up in front of a bluescreened magic mushroon dancing a jig in a leprechaun suit singing, Aitch Eh duble Are Aye Gee Eh En, I'm Harrr-i-gan! He must have lost a bet.

I was a child in the 80s and remember being into the Ghostbusters cartoons on saturday mornings. Anyway, there were two Ghostbuster cartoons. One based on the characters from the movies in the 80s and the 2nd had a gorilla in it and was not based on the movies at all. I remember hating this 2nd one because it seemed like a rip-off. Maybe it was based on this television show you've mentioned.

It was. Filmation still owned the name, which is why the other one was called The Real Ghostbusters. The animated Ghostbusters was not a sgood as the live action - and of course I'm tlaking about the televisual entertainment as i never saw any of the flicks.
