Are online bespoke shirts worth it? Yes!

I got this shirt about a year and half ago, and it's still holding up. Now, if I could go back, I would have gotten a soft collar, a more sober colour, placket, and a narrower collar spread. However, it was a good learning experience. I've gained some weight since then, so forgive it being a little neat on me now. The armholes are still snug enough (though not as high as some suits I've seen from you guys) and the tails never become untucked because of it.

I got it from Baron Boutique, and it was $39 then but prices have increased to $42, shipping included. Fabric is super soft Egytian cotton that only gets better with washing and wear. I had the fit spec as "comfortable," which has obviously gotten just a bit more fitted on me with time.

Keep in mind that their tag is on the inside collar band, and it's rather scratchy, so let them know if you don't want it there. Also, let them know anything else you want (such as no sleeve placket buttons, higher or longer collar, etc.) that isn't in their style guides. I specially requested a split yoke, which was no extra charge. Right now, they have mother of pearl buttons available. I'm inquiring now into how much more it is.

Sounds like a great deal! The fit look good, too.

Do you think they could make long 1930s collar? If yes, I might think about getting one of their twill shirts made.

Regards,
Henrik

I'm sure they could, just ask and show pictures of what you have in mind. They've been pretty accommodating with my absolutely INSANE feature inquiries so far.

You write this, then post that picture.

I oughtta haul my "started appearing as I hit my 30's" gut on down to the lower 48 just to smack you around, skinny. :rage:

They offer a Minority report jacket too, but it looks like they may have lifted the photo from Wested, unless the red faux-neck thing is a standard way of photographing ALL jackets.

Nice shirt, I'm in the market for some new ones very soon and I'll keep this outfit in mind.

Cheers

That's a really nice shirt at a nice price. I like the fit, too. Reminds me, I need to get some new shirts. Thanks for the link.

Little less than two weeks.

EDIT: Roflz, my post count is "1337."

If you guys want a really vintage shirt, make sure you specify you want soft cuffs and placket, too.

For some reason, I can't edit my topic post. So here's the pictures that were broken by my getting a new account at Photobucket.

I might also add that since they use a six button front instead of the usual seven, it may help to specify that as well.

Not yet. The top buttonhole has gotten a bit frayed, but I let them know.
Jovan, how is the construction? Are the collar and cuffs topstitched a quarter inch from the edge? Are the top and bottom yoke seams topstitched at the edge (this gives a more finished look to the yoke)? Are the side seams single-needle (with the raw edges turned under and stitched) or flat-felled (cheaper, with two visible rows of stitches on the seams)? Serged seams are the least desirable.

Also, it looks as if your shirt has a French (ie, unplacketed) front. How is side with the buttonholes finished -- is the raw edge turned under and then the front topstitched about a quarter of an inch from the edge?

By the way, does Baron Boutique allow you to specify tie gap? Are collar stays removable?

Yes. Isn't this standard even with the cheapest dress shirts?

Doesn't look like it.

Single needle. That impressed me in particular for a [then] $39 shirt.

I'm not sure what you're asking, but the side with the buttons is clean underneath with no raw edges. It's stitched.

Like I said earlier, they'll do anything you want if you ask. Just email customer service ahead of time to make sure it doesn't cost extra. (Most of the time for small details, no.)
