Ole, the Stetson I bought new in the spring of 1984 has metric sizing on the tag. This hat could very well be '80s, as the tag and box match mine.

80s was my estimate as well. I had a few ORs from that era. The earlier ORs, before the 1960s, were much better. Later on Stetson also licensed other hat companies to manufacture Open Roads for them.

Since I'm a potential buyer if a fair price is set it wouldn't be fair for me to weigh in on price more than I have. I would respect the opinions of others who wear the size & are familiar with the market on larger sizes to weigh in, such as gtdean.

"...so what's it "worth" ?"

Ha, well, ya got me there! I have not kept enough watch on hats that new, so I have no frame of reference. Since new fedoras tend to be around the $200 and up, it is for sure less than that. And I agree with the earlier post that once they are "driven off the lot," if you will, their value plummets. My feeling is that it is "worth" less than $100. But like I said, I just haven't watched enough sales of this type of hat at this age of manufacturing to say what the market price is.

Now, if this was a 7X Open Road from the 1960s or earlier at size 7-5/8 I'd guess it would go for around $300 and maybe more if people got their bidding blood up. But a 1980s piece? Yeah, less than $100 would be my feeling.

I'd guess these thoughts are pretty close.

Being a size 7-5/8, 61cm myself, I can tell you that you won't buy a hat like that for $40 or less on eBay. Here's a 7-5/8 OR dirty straw with a damaged crown that just cropped up for $40.

After the debate as to it's worth ended here I watched this 10X OR thru & here is what it ended up selling for on that given day. $193.50. I was not the buyer.
