I'm going to see the My Tailor folks when they come to Portland in a few weeks. I've never done anything of the kind. I don't really know what to expect. I assume the first thing they'll do is take my measurements? At this point, just to try it, I'm thinking of getting two shirts and a sportcoat. I'd like both the shirts and the jacket to be very light weight. I don't assume that's any trouble? A summer jacket with no or partial lining? Can I get really specific and ask for lapels of a certain width (narrow) and no shoulder pads? Can I specify besom pockets and like that? Any advice on how I should prepare myself much appreciated. TIA

While I've never dealt with My Tailor before, I've had some MTM experience. Jacket choices such as lapels, pockets, lining, vents, front quarter cut, gorge and button stance placement should be pretty much your call. Your request for zero shoulder padding could be problematic since some makers simply don't offer that option. You may want to contact them to inquire as to the amount of control/options you'll be given.

As for preparation, I suggest that you just make a list of the details that you want. Look at lots of jackets(photos) and make some decisions. Don't hesitate to bring photos, of jackets that you like, with you for your fitting. A good tailor/fitter will steer a customer towards choices that will complement their physique. For instance, he may advise against a 46XL from choosing narrow lapels but it is ultimately the customers decision. Good luck.

My tailor

I have had several items made by these gentleman... 5 pairs of slacks and 1 suit... They are really good, and they will do what you ask and try to keep the cost to a minum. Just make sure you give them as much detail as possible on what your looking for in the end product.. Im very picky abourt cuff size and things like that and they do a very good job of following instructions.

Don't be afarid to challenge them if they make suggestions that your just not into.

Good LucK!! :)
