I have to admit it doesn't excite me. I am not interested in watching videos or playing games on my phone. I think that I have played the solitaire game on my phone fewer than five times in the past two years - and it's the only game I've ever looked at.

I use a phone for calls, for the address book and its calendar functions. I may upgrade to a PDA-phone this summer, but any email I send from it will be mighty short, as I'm not interested in extensive keyboarding from the mini-keyboard.

But I have no beef with the folks who want a mobile entertainment center and are willing to pay $$$$$$$$$$$$$ for it.

I want an iPhone, but I still would use this Bluetooth handset with it:

Blending old with new is fun.

I think there's almost TOO much going on with this phone...don't get me wrong, my heart will ALWAYS belong to Apple. But I think I'd get a little too attached to it and never look up at anyone or anything. I love technology, but I think some of it tends to isolate us from other people. I almost enjoy NOT indulging in this kind of thing because it's the new shiny thing that everyone chases after. It's kind of my style, even with the vintage style...it's distinctive. That's me thoughts, anyway. :D

This coming from the girl with a mac, an iPod....but no cell phone yet. [huh]

I just dropped some coin on a Palm Treo smartphone (similar to MK's PDA he was talking about, I should think).

I love it; granted it may not be as slick as the iPhone but it does have the functionality; it's 50 bucks a month (that includes minutes AND data).

Further, I gotta say I love the proper qwerty Keyboard it has (it's a tiny thumb-type one)--it makes data entry a snap.

iPhone? Not for THAT price; especially not when I have this one.

Cheers
Craig

I've been reading about this, being a huge fan of Apple. It's gonna be hard, but I'm gonna wait for at least the second generation to come out. Apple is notorious for introducing cool things, then within months upgrading them and also dropping the price. They did this with the iPods and their iBooks.
I just got a new cell and a new iPod (80gb, it's great) so I think I should wait for another purchase from them. Will be difficult though, this thing looks soooo cooool.

I was talking to a guy that works for AT&T, and he said the model coming out at Christmas will be much better than the intro model. So, go ahead and wait.

The only advantage it has over my pocket PC phone is the storage, but I can always stick a 4 Gb SD card in my phone.

Mine has a full qwerty keyboard (Siemens SX66), but I can actually input faster using the stylus and on-screen keyboard.[huh]

BOSTON! LETS GO PATRIOTS!!!
I can't wait til' June 29th. Damn their ad campaigns are good, I totally am getting one of these.
Here's the stinker though:( It's being offered through Cingular Wireless, which bought out AT&T Wireless but has now changed it's name from Cingular to AT&T yet again. Anyway, when Cingular bought AT&T they toughened up their guidelines for buying new phones. You see, those great deals on phones that they offer, those are for new customers only. If you are an existing customer and you need a new phone because your phone is broken and out of warranty, or you just like gadgets and the constantly changing technology forces you to upgrade your phone more than once a year, well your gonna pay, sometime more than double the price, for a new phone. Cingular only allows it's clients to upgrade their phones at a lower price once a year. If you want another phone and your year is not up, your gonna have to fork over some serious cash.
You see, phone companies do not make any money off the price of their phones. They make money off of the rate plans that they sell. Those lower price rate plans are the worst money makers, that's why they offer a lot more perks with higher priced plans. So, if you already have a plan and want another phone, they are in fact losing money on you. So, they say that you have to pay the "retail" price of the phone. Yes, some companies say you can get a discount if you sign onto another 2 years with their company, but all those commercials you see for free phones and really cheap phones, those are commercials for new activations.
So, I want to buy the iPhone but I am not eligible for any special pricing, and will have to pay possibly more than the list price for it. I'm hoping that this will be a different type of upgrade, maybe Apples deal with Cingular is that the iPhone is a set priced product, and no discounts will be given regardless of new activation. If that is the case I will get one. If not, I'll just have to wait until November:( to get it, for there is no way I'm gonna pay more for something that others are paying less for.
I think the list price is $499, and I have a feeling such a specialized product that isn't just being offered by the phone company but also Apple will be a fixed price. Maybe as some sort of incentive the wireless provider will offer some sort of added perk, like free text messaging for 6 months, or a service rebate.
Either way, the advertising for this makes me really want to have one. I guess it's kind of foolish. I have a brand new iPod that does everything the iphone does, it just doesn't make calls. I have a phone for that. But, this gadget is so cool!! Besides, I worked for AT&T Wireless for quite some time, so for many years I was used to getting all of the latest and greatest, and most expensive technology, for free. Right now I'm not happy with the phone I have. I would like to have a bigger screen and better internet access. I was thinking about getting one of those cool phone/pda/internet phones with the full key pad and the touch screen, but why get that when I can have an Apple product..
OK, I guess I'm just making excuses for buying something I really don't need!
If anyone gets there hands on one of these before the release date, please let us know what you think. It really does look amazing. The only thing I'm leery about is buying a first generation product. I really do want one ASAP, but it might be better to wait for the second generation, usually they have a lot less bugs....

I was talking with my Dad today. He is an AT&Tingular customer, and he says why buy a device that is too proprietary, when Motorola will probably have the same thing by the end of the year, and it will undoubtedly be more reliable?

I might go for it - my current wireless contract expires in a couple of months. It would be nice to have something that can actually sync with my Mac Mini :) .

Is it true that for first 30 days or so sales will be limited to customers with *existing* Cingular/AT&T qualified service plans? That's what I was told by a salesman but I found it hard to believe. Perhaps a sneaky sales pitch....probably so. The blogs are all running with rumors like that now, I just caught some speculation about it on Information Week.

The rotary reciever is alright, though I don't see why they couldn't just build one of these instead:

I am in awe. So far, 4 pages about a phone that has not yet been used by anyone. Marketing is the pure secret to selling snake oil. God bless the American economy. :eusa_clap
