I think its kinda cool that so many people like to search out these grave sites.
I can see its done out of admiration of the people who we felt a connection to or had a lot of respect for.

From the plaque:

"THE LAST CAMP OF HI JOLLY
BORN SOMEWHERE IN SYRIA
ABOUT 1823
DIED AT QUARTZITE
DECEMBER 16 1902
CAME TO THIS COUNTRY
FEBRUARY 10 1856
CAMELDRIVER - PACKER
SCOUT - OVER THIRTY
YEARS A FAITHFUL AID
TO THE U.S. GOVERNMENT
ARIZONA
HIGHWAY DEPARTMENT
1935"

This is by far the coolest marker I've ever seen.

Please forgive the quality. These photos were pre digital age.

Tour of Woodlawn Cemetary in the Bronx

Here's some info about a tour of Woodlawn Cemetery in Da Bronx, final resting place of Irving Berlin, Duke Ellington, King Oliver, and other legends:

WFUV broadcasts from a tower overlooking Woodlawn Cemetery in The Bronx, so it's somehow fitting that Rich Conaty, the host of The Big Broadcast, should lead a walking tour of Woodlawn, to visit the final resting places of Irving Berlin, Duke Ellington, King Oliver, and other legends whose music he keeps alive on his show. The tour takes place on Sunday, June 29 at 2 pm and is free to WFUV members. Details at 718-920-1469 or email friends@woodlawncemetery.org.

Technically, nobody is buried in Grant's Tomb. Grant and his widow are entombed there (above ground) but nobody's actually buried there.

Grant's Tomb (OT)

I used to live across the street from Grant's Tomb. There's an old story that the grandson of Harry Emerson Fosdick, the first pastor of Riverside Church (directly across the street from Grant's Tomb) was riding down Riverside Drive (age about 5) and announced "There's Gramp's church! And there's Gramp's Tomb!"
