Anyone like the Alexander Leathers Gatsby?

This "Gatsby" thing is not my cup of tea either, and as others have mentioned the lapels are far too skinny for my tastes. As Edward says, it is a bit Jeremy Clarkson, pair it up with some suede moccasins, a pair of stonewash Levis and a massive mid-life crisis

The Aero Orleans though I like, good looking coat/jacket. Never seen one before and never knew Aero had done something like this.

though I still have my dad's original 1970s leather blazer, complete with 4" lapels, for those Life on Mars moments.

I actually have a Wested Life on Mars jacket which I love. But then I've also got a Fight Club repro as well. So yup I'm a 70s jacket fan.

I'm gonna have to disagree there, Thor. Look at the way the the leather gathers above the top of the pockets, they act like a corset to the bottom of the jacket.

Well, it's a lot of leather to break in, the pockets and the shell underneath it. I'm not sure what those cinch straps are doing there either. If you tightened them, you'd end up with the jacket equivalent of love handles :eeek:

Ah if only everyone liked the same jackets .. manufacturers could just make one ..... and we'd all have a very small collection

I equally think it looks much better being modelle rather than sitting on a table being photographed.

It does look nice worn. Even if the design isn't everyone's cup of tea, looking at the photo up there, there's no doubt this is a top quality jacket (coat) that fits ace. Wouldn't perhaps buy it but I'd certainly wear it.

Deerskin's v expensive but a lovely, almost cloth-like, hide that would be ideal for this sort jacket. I retract the 'looks heavy' remark, though, it's an easy mid-weight leather.

That is very cool. I wish that Aero/GW/BK made such a jacket. Everyone makes a halfbelt and I feel that there is a market for a longer jacket like the FW.

That other AL is just nasty, though... it looks sorta cartoony, like the pockets are way too big for it... [huh]

Yes, I have quite a few jackets now that are variations on a theme. I still like them a lot but definitely room for some different designs. Anyway, I came across a post about Mackenzie bags while searching the forum and couldn't resist buying one so, any new jackets will have to wait a while longer!

Hi repo, that was probably my post. My wife and I have bought 5 bags from him in the last year and are very impressed. We were at his workshop a couple of weeks ago and he made a mod to my satchel while we waited.

The funny thing is that I recently found a women's shop here in Edinburgh that sells his bags. They wanted £485 for a bag my wife bought direct from him (1 mile or so away) for only £300. His quality is amazing compared to much more expensive designer bags, but most people seem to prefer to pay for a label.

It seems to be getting bigger now Ed. I know what you mean though, back in the late 80s/early 90s in NZ you used to be able to pick them up for a song but they're rarer now (in excellent condition). All of the uni students in my day had one but they had a tendency to often get utterly wrecked at things like PiL /JAMC/Nirvana/Sonic Youth, etc gigs, I think I went through 2 or 3 myself back in the day

Funnily enough my wife's favourite of all my jackets isn't any of my WWII/Korean War jackets nor my Aero Barnstormer nor a couple of vintage civilian flying jackets but my Wested Life on Mars jacket [huh]

I suppose they're getting on for forty years old, now, and what with the seventies revival market.... My preferred form of seventies revivalism was more the Perfecto-and-drainpipes end of things, but hey ho... It's funny how these things go in waves like that. I know folks a little older than me who were around in the seventies, early adopters of the 50s thing, and they used to buy beautiful fifties stuff for oennies because to most folks then it was just "old clothes". Maybe I should have kept my old combat trousers from the 90s to flog on.... Their day will come, I'm sure.
