Anyone know anything about this hatmaker Daquino?

Hmmm. Sounds like Luisa should get an email from me. Does she do thin ribbons, and will she deliver the hat open crown? I'm thinking a dark or medium brown Open Road style (you know, the kind of colors the OR doesn't come in any more), high straight open crown, matching brim binding and matching thin ribbon. And how much more is beaver?

She's worked with me on both my orders to customize them. The last I got was 5.5" open crown. I think her block options may be a bit limited, but she did a decent job of minimizing taper. I think a beaver body jumps the price up closer to $150 than the $90 for the bunnies on Etsy.

Edit: See post 275 for pics of my beaver D'Aquino.

Yes, a color like that would make for an unusual OR-style hat.

Luisa seems to have really dropped off the grid - I've tried to contact her about doing another hat for me but haven't heard a peep since November.

hey guys

little update on my previous post regarding that Brown Bogart lid i ordered from Daquino a little while back.
still haven't sold the brim distorting problem i have with that lid. I can't seem to get a proper flange/snap to that 2 and a half brim. most frustrating as the hat feels nice other than that... other thing i'm not to happy about is the way the liner is glued to the crown. The job is a bit sloppy, with large splatters of glue pasted across the felt. Not to worry as it seems to keep the liner firmly where it belongs, and you don't get to notice the glue unless you flip the sweat band to have a look, but still... any of yous have to gripe about similar mishaps ?

No problems with flanges or anything. I'm not a big fan of the liner glued to the top of the hat. I ordered my second one with the liner removable, though.

So I ordered another hat from Luisa in January, this one a red fedora with a 2.5 inch raw edged brim for my wife. It arrived in February.

I ordered it sans ribbon, so that I could finish it myself. After scouring Etsy and eBay for just the right ribbon, I purchased and curled some patriotic grosgrain.

And attached it to the hat. My wife found a vintage WWII Allied Victory pin on eBay to complete the job.

Wa and La, my version of Marvel's Agent Carter hat.

Super job on that!
Love it!!

I'm a little late on this report because I just got around to taking pictures. I ordered it in September 2016 and received it about 4 weeks later. I ordered it in blue, close to 6" open crown with minimum taper, 2 3/8" brim, 1.5 inch ribbon, removable liner.

It came well packaged, exactly as ordered. The felt finish is very nice, about Akubra quality and better than something like Baileys of Hollywood.

Overall, a great value plus the ability to customize the order.

Images failed for some reason:mad:. Really interested in seeing this one. I'm looking at a brown or grey derby from her.

I couldn't upload images, so I used the forum's media area. Please be sure that the "media" tabs are selected instead of the "information" tabs for each image. There are still three

Communication is a bit wonky with her taking 2-3 business days to answer my emails, but she has always answered me. I was specific on the hat that I wanted and she agreed to my specifications. I was told she doesn't have straight-sided blocks, but her pre-shipping photos look to have minimal taper just like I asked her. I should receive it in the next two weeks for a 35 day order to delivery timeframe. I'm already thinking of ordering others.

Let me know your opinion when received. I have had some spotty communication with her so I dropped the process. The Greek guy has yet to answer my second email request so I have let that one slide. Still would like to add a FEPSA beaver/hare blend.

I placed an order with the Greek guy (Agnoulita) and sent him my money. I've since sent three emails and has not answered any of them. I'm not sure what's going on there. The hat is scheduled to ship December 1st, so I'll let it ride for now. My bigger issue is the price. It isn't all that expensive until you realize you can order a Gannon with a kettle curled brim for $60-80 more. Makes me question the value of this hat since I'm positive it won't be the quality of a Gannon.

As for D'aquino, she hasn't been Johnny-on-the-spot, but she did answer me. I'm still giving her full benefit. This hat took about a week longer to make than I was quoted, but still not long for a custom. I'll know within 10 seconds of opening the box if it was a good buy, but I'm pleased so far. If the hat is decent or better I think there is value here and will order more from her. $118 for a custom hat could be a deal if the quality is there.

I have two D'Aquino hats made by Ms. Luisa, and I'm very happy with both. There are photos upthread. While I've since "graduated" to better custom hats like Gannon I have no plans to order from her again; but she makes a fine hat to specs for a good price. I think you'll be happy.

Sent directly from my mind to yours.
What grade felt did you get? I have heard the FEPSA beaver/rabbit blend makes a great hat.
