Steve used to be good friends with us,....used to sell vintage on south street but had closed up shop years ago. Wondering what ever happened to him,...if he ever got back into it, etc?? Sure do miss him!:(

Did he have a pomp? Did he sell vintage in the basement of the Antiquriam on 5th or 6th (I forget which one!) Street?

If so, I used to buy from him often and wondered what happened to him myself. I was very disheartened the day I went down there and he was gone :(

Yep, that's our Steve! I knew he had been talking about closing up shop back then,...the we hadn't been back there for a while, talked to a few other friends tht were vintage dealers and they said he was calling it quits, with a new toddler in the house, etc. I guess it was time.

He was the coolest cat to by vintage from,....always treated me and my gal right, got some great stuff there, we would trade, etc. etc.....now the only vintage dealers I ahd seen after that either thought their stuff was made of gold or they thought a 1969 poyester shirt was from the 40s!!

I never actually knew his name, but my ex-boyfriend and I would always go down there and pay him a visit if we found ourselves in the Antiquarium. He had some excellent dresses and skirts that were REALLY from the 40s and 50s -- as you said, he didn't try to pass off a 70s dress as 30s. He was a really friendly guy who didn't think he was more "vintage" than anyone else -- he would tell us about his (then) baby and his wife who worked for the phone company (if memory serves me correctly!)

He'd always give me a deal. He was so nice. Last time I saw him was in '02 or '03. If you catch up with him, let me know! He most likely won't remember me -- I was just a repeat customer and he never got my name, but I sometimes still wonder where he went.

Do you mean the black and white painted (religious) building on 6th between South and Bainbridge? Diagonally across from Beau Monde? Haven't been in years.

If I recall correctly, yes, its actually was an old Jewish Synagoge. Yep, that's it. My wife said she hit it last week, said there's NOTHING in there as far as anything new since we were last there 4 years ago!!!![huh] Prices on the few items that were interesting were STILL rediculously HIGH,..even though they havent sold for all that time....I think that deserves a standing ovation for making no sense at all! :eusa_clap
